Guest guest Posted March 21, 2005 Report Share Posted March 21, 2005 Turnips with Mustard Greens Source: Cooking by the Book This combination of tender-crisp turnip strips and lightly wilted mustard greens goes well on a cold winter day! 2 tsp sesame seeds 2 turnips 2 1/2 " (6cm) diameter, peeled and cut into 1/8 " (3mm) julienne strips 3 Tbsp (45 ml) each lemon juice, water, and vegan sugar 3 Tbsp (45 ml) olive oil 4 cups lightly packed mustard greens 1 small red bell pepper (capsicum), seeded and diced -OR- 1 - 2 oz (30-60g) jar pimentos, drained In a wide frying pan, combine turnips, red bell pepper, lemon juice, water, and sugar. Cover and bring to a boil over high heat; continue boiling until turnips are tender-crisp to the bit, about 3 minutes. Remove lid from pan and quickly stir in sesame seeds, oil, and mustard greens. Stir over medium heat just until greens are wilted and tender (10 minutes or so). Pour into a shallow serving dish. Serve immediately. Sprinkle with imitation baco chips if desired (optional).
