Stained Glass Holiday Cookies

1 1/2 cup flour

1/4 tsp. nutmeg

1/2 cup butter or margarine

1 cup sifted powdered sugar

4 hard cooked egg yolks -- mashed

1 Tbsp. lemon juice

1 tsp. vanilla

1 cup diced mixed candied fruit and peels

 

In a medium bowl stir together flour and nutmeg, set aside. In a large mixer

bowl beat margarine or butter with electric mixer on medium to high speed until

softened. Gradually beat in sugar. Beat in egg yolks, lemon juice and vanilla.

Stir in flour mixture and fruit. Shape into an 11 inch long log 2 inches in

diameter. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 4 hours or overnight. Unwrap, cut

into 1/8 inch thick slices, wiping and wetting knife between cuts. Place on an

ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 325 oven about 10 minutes or until edges are

light brown.
