Guest guest
_____ Info at WFFT [info] Thursday, 29 March, 2007 11:44 aapn FW: Thailand elephants Dear all, We are currently setting up a campaign against the exploitation of Wild Animals in tourism in South East Asia. Does anyone have similar complaints (as the one hereunder) on the use of wildlife in elephant camps, zoos, beaches, and so on? Please forward if any to edwin.wiek as we are setting up a website to inform tourists what not to do, where not to go. Pictures are welcome too. Thank you, Edwin Wiek =============================== Dear Sirs/Madam, I am a tour operator based in South Africa and recently visited Thailand as part of a MICE familiarisation trip with a view to bringing groups to Thailand. After a week, I was left with a lasting impression that even though I have travelled everywhere in the world including all over Africa and areas where cruelty to animals is notorious, I have never seen such cruelty as I witnessed in Thailand. Apart from the general condition of domestic pets which was already appalling. The condition of the elephants being ridden from early hours of the morning till late at night at Hua Hin is the worst I have ever seen in my life. The elephants were being beaten till they bled, small elephants. The others that had been beaten into submission were struggling with heavy loads down steep embankments and then into a cesspool full of excrement. I have never witnessed anything so bad in my life and I must say this will definitely negatively impact our choice to sell Thailand as a destination. Please, act on behalf of the elephants against: Elephant village Hua Hin behind Eitisukato Temple, Phone/ Fax 032 - 516181 Also, en route to the village there are hundreds of dogs, cats, cows starving to death. This is shocking beyond words. Surely there is a program of sterilsation? Thanks for some feedback. Regards,
