Guest guest Posted January 31, 2009 Report Share Posted January 31, 2009 Portobello Cheese " Steak " Sandwich 2 tsp extra virgin olive oil 2 cups sliced onions 4 large Portobello mushrooms, stems and gills removed, then sliced 1 cup thinly sliced bell pepper 2 tsp Italian Seasoning 1/2 tsp pepper 1 TBS flour 1/4 cup vegetable broth 1 TBS Worcestershire Sauce 3 ounces sliced provolone cheese 4 whole wheat buns, split and toasted Heat oil in a large skillet. Add onions and cook until soft, and begin to brown, about 5 minutes. Add mushrooms, bell pepper, Italian seasoning and pepper, cook, stirring often, until vegetables are soft, about 10 minutes. Reduce heat to low and sprinkle the vegetables with flour, stir to coat. Stir in broth and Worcestershire sauce, bring to a simmer. Remove pan from heat and lay cheese slices on top of vegetables. Cover and let stand until melted, about 2 minutes. Divide the mixture into 4 portions, leaving the melted cheese layer on top. Scoop a portion onto each toasted bun and serve.
