Guest guest
Not sure if this helps, but there are usually many articles from San Francisco schools about exiting junk food via machines tackled from a commercialism in schools aspect, also information on cleaning up school lunches and events. I have sent a few links to blogs, news articles, etc. that may help. Many parents actually tackled the topic with state representatives rather than the school, although I know that may be extreme in your case. We are meeting with the county's chief operating officer next week. He is all about the numbers (snack sales are very lucrative). As a pilot program we have already introduced some " healthy snacks " and shown them to be profitable. If you have any information about programs where this has been done before, suppliers of healthy snack foods (will need " cookie dough " they can bake at the school WITHOUT the hydro oils- - it is their #1 selling item after ICE CREAM - - and preservative free or natural ice cream) please let me know? I'm also looking for scientific studies to show the detrimental effects on learning of additives/preservaties and just plain BAD food? We are beginning a CSA at the school and want to improve the school lunch program too, but realize we have to take babysteps.
