The one-horned beast was spotted at Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary yesterday. It even attacked a team of eight forest guards who were trailing it. One Dulal Saikia, a forest guard, was seriously injured and later had to be admitted to the Jorhat Civil Hospital for treatment. Two more persons have reportedly sustained injuries at the rhino's attack in the district since yesterday. Meanwhile, top Forest officials, including the Director of the Kaziranga National Park and two experts from Guwahati, arrived here today to mull a strategy to control the `stray' rhinoceros. According to information available, the rhinoceros is at present grazing at Sarucharai Tea Estate under Pulibor police station. It is believed to have reached there by travelling across Cinnamara, Lichubari and Jail Road areas from the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary. The Forest officials and the police have been in a tizzy since the sighting of the rhinoceros in the Sarucharai area. As the area is widely populated, it has become a difficult task to safely drive the animal back to the Kaziranga National Park from where it has apparently strayed. It may be mentioned here that a rhinoceros was first sighted in the Neamati area here about a fortnight back. It later appeared in the Jhanjimukh area in Teok and gorged a villager to death there. The present rhinoceros is believed to be the same which was earlier spotted.
