Guest guest
I know not everyone here is an old fashion farm girl or guy, but I am. [More old than fashionable...] Anyway, I like the root veggies. We had a turnip gratin yesterday, leftovers today. I didn't use vegan style cheese, but it surely can be done. Simple to prepare, and I made it with sliced turnips, veggie broth, plain cheddar cheese, onions, S & P, skim milk powder, with oatmeal to thicken the sauce. Grated cheese on top. My inspiration came from this source, which gives a good tutorial. http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2008/11/turnip-gratin/<http://thepioneerwoman\ ..com/cooking/2008/11/turnip-gratin/> If I had it, the low fat cheese would have been best. Because it was 75% turnips, I felt the fat from the cheese was not so high in comparison to the vegetable. It was a good meal with fresh asparagus and sliced apples for the sweet. Guest guest
Well, Barbara, I'm sure your version using veggie stock (instead of the ch*cken stock in the recipe) would have been vegetarian and slimming too, but please understand that even with low-fat cheese (or cheeze for vegans) the recipe as shown would have been, with all the rest of the ingredients incl. cream or whatever, absolutely unacceptable to a low-fat slimming group. If your version is low in calories and fat, we'd really really like to know you _you_ made it, including measurements of ingredients. It's clever of you to be able to adapt a shockingly high-cal and high-fat recipe such as this one (not to mention the fact that it was non-vegetarian LOL) to your own eating style - that's very creative. But we need to know how you did that, in some detail. Soooooo, could you please - next time you make it - keep track of the measurements and the exact ingredients you use so that we can post it here? Many many thanks! Best, Pat --- http://beanvegan.blogspot.com http://www.vegandonelight.com/spice " The world is a stage, but the play is badly cast.
