Guest guest
Hi Trish and welcome! Nice to have you onboard. I love Robin Robertson's slow cooker book. In fact, I am making Sloppy Lentils today from it! There are a few dishes in it I make over and over. I highly recommend the Almost Irish Stew if you have not tried it yet. And you're right, it is about our entire lifestyle and way of eating, not just a " diet " that will create a solid, permanent change. My name is Trish, and I live in Oregon, a state in the northwestern part of the USA. We're in the Pacific Maritime climate, which is a mild zone 8. I'm not much of a gardener, but I do grow my own herbs, and love to use them in cooking. I just hit the double nickel -- age 55. Once I went through menopause, I started putting on more weight and having more trouble losing the extra kgs/lbs. My plan is to change the way I live, rather than do a temporary " diet. " Basically, I need to cut portions down and eat more fruits and veggies. I'm a high school/secondary school teacher, and my job keeps me pretty busy. I'd been going to the gym in the morning before school, but it's a hassle, and I did it inconsistently. I decided to switch exercise to yoga done at home and once a week at a yoga center. The campus of my school was designed by a southern California architect, so we have that sprawling campus layout of many separate single-story buildings. Needless to say, I walk a lot, and with 5-minute passing periods between classes, I walk fast! I figure I get enough aerobic exercise that way. I'm looking forward to reading tips, experiences, and recipes. I've been exploring slow-cooker recipes with one of Robin Robertson's cookbooks/cookery books. They're low fat and very tasty. I'm planning on making a cabbage soup with veggie sausages tomorrow. I'll let you all know how it went! Demographics are pretty basic, I guess :-) Married, no kids, vegetarian since before the dinosaurs had feathers -- okay, maybe not quite that long, but since the 70s. I've tried to become vegan but love cheese and dairy yogurt a little too much. Now I limit those and eat vegan meals several times a week. I hope everyone's holidays were wonderful. Cheers, Trish
