Guest guest
Hi Lo Donna, I saw your blog, but I cannot leave a comment because of a horrible experience I had on Xanga. I would like to take this opportunity to warn everyone out there NOT open up a Xanga blog and especially not to read a Xanga blog. Someone recently opened up a Xanga blog using my e-mail address, which is why I changed my e-mail address. My computer was virused when I got the " Welcome to Xanga " message. I was shocked because I did not open up a Xanga account, although I used to have one. I went into the site so I could report it and get it shut down. My friend also helped me by going in there. She gave me the e-mail address to Xanga to report abuse, and I sent in my complaint to Xanga about someone falsely using my e-mail address to start a blog with anti-semitic comments about another Xanga site. The next thing I knew my friend's computer had crashed and mine was going haywire. I would also like to warn you that Xanga has some very questionable adults opening up blogs. They have moms and dads with blogs that appear to be decent, professional people. Then they start socializing online with underaged people. Then more and more they start posting about porn. If you comment to them with any criticism, they blow up. Just do not ever go into XANGA and never read it. You will be sorry. I, personally, will never blog again because I have a son who will open a blog if I do, and I don't want him reading these sites of moms and dads that appear to be so witty, funny, and clever and then start posting about porn and are engaged in heavy online contact with the underaged community. I need to protect him from that, and the only way I can do that is not to have a blog myself. My son's fave site was a woman, who was a professional mom, that started posting about porn and calling ANYONE a stalker who criticized her. It was scary. Guest guest
Hold on, you can't tell any one not to use xanga just because you had abad experience. I have been using xanga for about 4 years. Yes there are questionable people using xanga, but that's the case with most things on the world wide web (www). If you find some thing offensive, no matter what website, then report it, if you find child porn then REPORT it! Do a google search and find the correct website to report those types of things to. People get viruses every day, even from microsoft. So saying not to go to xanga you will be sory, well you can say that about 99% of the websites out there. You don't even need to go to a web site to have a trojan or even a virus installed on your computer. For instance; if you use any type of chat program (aim, msn messanger, messanger, icq, etc) it is easy to get your IP address from those. You have to know what to do and what not to do to protect yourself from any virus. You can set up firewalls have loads of anti virus software, have cookies disabld - have pop ups blocked, use a spam gaurd in your e-mail, have anti virus software with your e-mail; the truth is having all of this will prevent most viruses and trojans but NOT all. I suggest you don't go bad mouthing any company just because you made a mistake by opening up an e-mail. Xanga probably didn't even send you that e-mail - sure it migh look like xanga, but it probably wasn't. How many microsoft e-mails do you get that aren't really from microsoft? My point is, you can never really be sure. If you don't know what it is then don't open it. Paypal even has an e-mail being sent out saying some thing about some one being added to your paypal account, and they provide a link for you to click on to log in and verify the person added and as SOON as you click on that link and log in that person is automatically added to your paypal account unbeknownst to you. People are extremely tricky, and will stop at nothing. As far as your child goes, use parental blocks for websites you know may be harmful. I personally am NOT sorry when I frst joined the xanga community 4+ years ago. I have had nothing but good experiences with them. Sure, if I wanted to I could look up child molesters on there, but why would I? If you don't want to find some thing, then don't search for it.
