Guest guest
Hello First let me introduce myself, I am a 52 year old schoolteacher, mother of 2 adult children and grandmother of an 8 year old. About 9 years ago I decided to change my life... first was to go to Yoga and the second was to become a vegetarian... which after 6 months I became Vegan. My daughter, granddaughter and husband are vegetarians. My son.. is stuck to his Wendy burgers.. OH well! I am always looking for new ideas, cooking or otherwise. I love learning and trying new foods.. and oh boy are they multiplying since I first began vegan. It's great. Thanksgiving Basically I hate thanksgiving, we eat with non-vegetarian family members and must see the slain bird each year, not only does it gross me out, but to think I ate it for years is to much for me to deal with. So sitting there with devouring family in-laws just is to much. I have no favorite Thanksgiving foods.. Favorite Kitchen Gadget My VitaMix There are just endless possibilites.. of course it's hefty in price but after waiting for years.. I bought it and love it!! Useless Gadget.. hum... The Mandoline....its dangerous and I just got rid of it, although it looked like a useful object it turned out to be a waste of money. I love appliances and buy new CoffeePots constantly.. as coffee is my passion!! Earth Song ..-- May the Circle be unbroken Merry Meet and Merry Part and Merry Meet again! Guest guest
Warm welcome, Ezevia! Great to have join us. i look forward to reading your posts and recipes. i can fully understand your dislike of the holiday gathering you described. i also attend a gathering of omnivores. They even put meat in the stuffing dish... which is my favorite part! Now i fix and take along my veggie version. i take quite a few dishes to the gathering now so i can be sure to enjoy the meal and the day. My friend just bought a Vitamix and i really want one. i am saving my money; it is on my list! What is your favorite thing to make in it? ~ pt ~ If the day and night are such that you greet them with joy, and life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet-scented herbs, is more elastic, more starry, more immortal -- that is your success. ~ Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , Ezevia <alemapyeksnip@g...> wrote: > > Hello > First let me introduce myself, I am a 52 year old schoolteacher, mother of 2 > adult children and grandmother of an 8 year old. > About 9 years ago I decided to change my life... first was to go to Yoga and > the second was to become a vegetarian... which after 6 months I became > Vegan. > My daughter, granddaughter and husband are vegetarians. Guest guest
I have to say that I love my mandoline. I don't use it that often, but it's not that big (it's a knock-off brand, so might not stand as tall as the real deal). But when I need it, there is nothing that will do the trick like it will. For my favorite cucumber salad, the cukes need to be sliced super-thin, which is just not possible with a knife. It can be set a little wider for slices of potatoes to roast in the oven. There's one setting that divides each slice into little sticks, too. There's plenty more it's great for, I just can't think of what right now. I would not pay $200 for it or whatever the real model costs, though. If you have the knock-off one, it is a good idea to invest in a better veggie-holder (for lack of a better word) so that you don't slice your knuckle. They even put meat in the stuffing dish... Someone please tell me why meat has to be in every dish! I mean you've got a big meat platter, basically, sitting in the middle of the table on that day. What is wrong with having sides that are meat free. Heck, doesn't it cost more just to try and incorporate it into " every " dish! Seriously what is next. Places put chicken on salads and I've seen chicken and steak on baked potatoes! At BBQ places it isn't enough meat as your main dish, they incorporate it into the beans as well. Now what - fruit cocktail with pork! Who thinks this stuff up? > which is my favorite part! I wanted to ask you and Ezevia what a vitamix is. It sounds really familiar. I think I've heard about it here before. S.
Guest guest
Hello Subprong! Vitamix is a professional high powered blender. It comes with two blades a grain blending blade and a regular blade. What do I do with it! Smoothies.. yum but also veggies.. ground carrots which my family loves and I put the summer squash with some 'earth balance' and puree it. My grandmother always mashed it to smithereens and so I have adopted the vitamix to do the work! It's not quite soupy but close. I also make a great slushy lemonade with one whole lemon, a 1/2 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water and a tray of ice. The vitamix is great a cutting up ice. IT " S delicious... I am also an herbalist, so I grind all my dried herbs in it before putting them away for winter! Guest guest
Thank you Ezevia and PT for the info on the Vitamix. I haven't made any smoothies in awhile but I do have a smoothie maker which is basically a blender with a spout built into the container (like a Brita) and you can pull the lever as the machine is working and pour your smoothie into your glass. Also comes with a cover/cap stick that helps you push things around through the lid. An herbalist, aye. That sounds very cool.
