BE BOLD PT!! **** (great quote by the way!)

make that tater salad... smear it on some bread, or a bagel or a

pita... et cetera!!

enjoy enjoy enjoy!

My newest " craze " has been the avocado sandwich... although mine is

more of a quacamole bagel really..

I smear the avocado on the bagel, sprinkle with granulated garlic and

put on some chopped tomatoes..

I LOVE IT!

of course, I love avocado... and will also just smear it on something..

hmm.. I love wheat bread , with avocado, topped with tempeh.. is that

I have never had it in a fruit salad... probably thanks to my mother...

she used to put it in regular salad.. (SURE NOW I get that.. now I

understand the wonder of avocado, the joy of the green fruit... I love

it!!! not then...) then< I tried desperately not to get any of the

salad that had been slimed by the over ripe blackish green funk of an

avocado that my mom somehow enjoyed! hee hee

=)

I guess I have grown! ??

what other fruits do you like in your salad??

i'm game to try anything!

=) anything vegan anyway! lol

Ooh yes, comfort fruit - avocado! Jalapeno bagel, avocado slices (lots),

tomato slices, red onion slices and alfalfa sprouts. I like a slice of

cheese on it. Of course sprinkle salt and pepper on the avo and tamater.

That granulated garlic that you mentioned would be a bonus. I'll have to add

that next time - or even garlic powder.

Try adding to grilled pineapple, strawberry & nectarine (I put them

all on a skewer and grill, including the avocado). You'll love it!

The last fruit salad I made though, was peach, apple, banana, kiwi, &

pomegranate.... really good, especially with some slivered almonds on top.

I imagine wood would taste the best - apple wood probably, but have

personally only used a gas grill. :-( One of the limitations of

living in an apartment sometimes.

PS Oh, and once I did them on a grill pan that you set on the stove.

Not sure a Foreman grill would work though - some of the fruit is

really tender...

Oh I've got a bag of apple chips and lots 'o mesquite split logs.

Amy, If you ever want the flavor of the apple wood (or whatever other type)

on that gas grill then check out one of these. I've got one that looks like

this but has a lid. Got it for around $3.

Perfect accessory for outdoor grilling

Flavors food with aromatic smoke

Works with gas, electric, and charcoal grills

Made of heavy-gauge steel

Easy to use, simple to clean

Mesquite smoke your next batch of veggie burgers with Charcoal Companion's

easy to use black steel smoker box. Soak wood chips in water for 30 minutes

prior to grilling; drain; place chips in the 1-1/2-inch deep, 3-1/2-inch

wide, 9-inch-long steel box; set the box in your grill above the heat

source--that's all there is to it. The heat in your grill will cause the

chips to smoke, thus flavoring whatever you've got cooking. Hickory, alder,

apple, and mesquite impart distinctive flavors to fish and meat. To clean,

simply discard chips and ash and clean as you would other grill surfaces.

I love the title of this thread now!

I grew up in an area where avocado trees were everywhere and we always

had them in abundance in a bowl on the kitchen table. Whole grain

toast smeared with plain avocado and pepper was my standard breakfast

as a kid. I am disgusted with the price and poor quality of avocados

these days! We pay about $1 each on a good day.

Also, I LOVE Spaghetti sandwiches! Pasta and sauce piled up on garlic

toast and then smash another piece of toast on top! YUM!

Oh, and I'll share a family tradition here, never met ANYONE else who

eats these - peanut butter and pickle sandwich, sometimes with mayo

sometimes without. I guess I ate too many of these as a kid because I

don't care for them anymore but pretty much everyone in my family

still eats these :)

I just did a little search on peanut butter and pickle sandwiches (by

the way, we eat ours with DILL pickles) and apparently, it's not that

unique. One person commented that these were a staple for her uncle

when he was a child during the Depression. Interesting :)
