Guest guest
Can anyone recommend a good brand/model of toaster/convection oven? My regular oven doesn't work because the electric cord blew up. I can still use the top of the stove, because it's gas, but I haven't had an oven in several years. I would like to be able to do some simple baking in a toaster/convection oven (tabletop kind), but I'm unfamiliar with features etc. I looked online and found some good reviews, but many of them said the ovens get very hot to the touch. Given that I have 5 cats (several of whom walk on the counters), I don't want a brand that gets hot. Any recommendations? mrf
Guest guest
Sorry your oven went wonkie on you. i only have a simple 4-slice GE toaster oven on my counter... not a convection oven. But i have baked in it, though it really needs to be watched and now i only use it to cook frozen pizzas or appetizer things because the top browns faster than my regular oven. Sorry i couldn't be more help to you. Hopefully another person here will have a wonderful model of convection/toaster oven that they will recommend. i do think most will probably be warm to the touch on the outside, which won't be great for your cats. But if they are anything like mine, they will only need to be shown " hot " once. *lol* ~ pt ~ The snapping of pitch from a burning log, The faint scent of pine filling the room. Flames leaping about as if it were a ballet Performing for its audience. The soft, comforting glow of candlelight, Bringing with it serenity and quiet thoughts. ~Linda Christensen, Autumn's Beauty ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , " Mary R. Guest guest
Sorry about your oven, Mary. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a toaster/convection oven until now. I know there are microwave/convection appliances. *http://tinyurl.com/9shkf *That is link to consumers guide reviews on a few brands. You may want to take a gander at the " recommended " models and take the model numbers you like and head over to epinions.com <http://epinions.com> and see what consumers have got to say about it. At some of those prices, you could probably invest $50 more and get a standard oven. I say this because I am as well ovenless/stoveless and at one time had been shopping for microwave/convection dealies. I have a simple black and decker toaster oven. As PT stated, I have to watch everything I do with it. My only and last episode of not being in the same room with it as it heated up a cheesy tortilla left my place smelling of smoke for a few days. Let me tell you the top of this thing gets so hot that after I had first tested it before cooking anything, I had to make a heavy mental note not to touch the top while in use (or even 10 minutes after use). I seriously think that I'd have to take a spatula to my fingers or hand if I ever touch it. It gets that hot. There are 2 heating elements at the top with a very thin, metal housing portion for the top of the oven. The sides are plastic. I believe this is why I got the thing cheaply. Good luck, Shawn * * On 11/11/05, Mary R. Frank wrote: > > Can anyone recommend a good brand/model of toaster/convection oven? My > regular oven doesn't work because the electric cord blew up.
