Guest guest
You got it Ezevia! i bet this can be veganized. i'll add my ideas in brackets along with the original ingredient list. Quick Mix (to use as you would bisquick) 8 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 4 Tbs baking soda 1 Tbs salt 2 tsp cream of tartar 1 tsp baking soda 1 1/2 cups instant nonfat dry milk or dry buttermilk powder [ i was thinking you might be able to sub soymilk powder] 2 1/4 cups vegetable shortening [ this is vegan already, but i think Earth Balance brand margarine would be a good sub for the crisco type shortening i used before] In a large bow;, sift together all the dry ingredients. Blend well. With a pastry cutter, cut in shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal in texture. Put in an airtight container. Label and date contents. Store in a cool, dry place. Use within 10 to 12 weeks. Makes about 13 cups of mix. copied from Make-A-Mix cookbook by: Karine Eliason, Nevada Howard and Madeline Westover [ this is an awesome cookbook. Not vegetarian, but many recipes are easily adaptable, and you will enjoy making your own mixes! ] ~ pt ~ You've got to do your own growing, no matter how tall your grandfather was. ~ Irish saying ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , Ezevia < alemapyeksnip@g...> wrote: > > PT > I would LOVE the homemade bisquick mix, maybe I can whip up a vegan > version.... > that would be great > thank you > Ezevia
Guest guest
PT, at work we cut butter in in a food processor. Put all the dry ingredients in the bowl of the food processor and whizz. Chop the shortening up in chunks with a knife or just rip of pieces with your hands - we use our hands at work - and drop into the bowl and use the pulse option several times, until desired texture is achieved. Just don't let the machine run long after you add the fat - use the pulse button. , " ~ PT ~ " <patchouli_troll> wrote: > > You got it Ezevia! > i bet this can be veganized. i'll add my ideas in > brackets along with the original ingredient list. > > Quick Mix (to use as you would bisquick) > > 8 1/2 cups all-purpose flour > 4 Tbs baking soda > 1 Tbs salt > 2 tsp cream of tartar > 1 tsp baking soda > 1 1/2 cups instant nonfat dry milk or dry buttermilk powder > [ i was thinking you might be able to sub soymilk powder] > 2 1/4 cups vegetable shortening > [ this is vegan already, but i think Earth Balance > brand margarine would be a good sub for the crisco > type shortening i used before] > > In a large bow;, sift together all the dry ingredients. > Blend well.
