Guest guest
I thought this was an interesting article. It shows a few sides of a story regarding the safety, production, distribution and consumption of organic, raw milk. ---- Laws unable to cow raw-milk fans FDA says beverage is dangerous to drink Cary Aspinwall and Lisa Nicita The Arizona Republic Nov. 17, 2005 12:00 AM Fans of organic raw milk are going to extremes to get their fix. Months after the state's only raw organic dairy was shut down, black-market buyer groups have emerged, drophouses are cropping up, and FedEx is making special deliveries to the Valley from California. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has long refused to budge from its stance that raw milk is dangerous, possibly carrying high levels of potentially deadly pathogens such as salmonella and E. coli. State dairy regulators, also concerned about the health risks, enforce strict rules on raw-milk producers and sellers and are cracking down on illegal practices. advertisement Still, consumer demand is brisk. Nationally and in Arizona, people are breaking the law to get their hands on raw organic milk, claiming it is superior in health and taste to the pasteurized, homogenized milk found on the supermarket shelf. They swear it tastes like melted vanilla ice cream. " It's like heroin right now, " said Tony Spaltro, a night manager at Gentle Strength Co-Op in Tempe, one of the few places Arizona consumers can purchase raw milk. -This is a long article - the rest can be found at the following link-... http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/1117rawmilk17.html
Guest guest
Have had raw milk many times growing up and it taste awesome. It is incredible. Heating up does something to the flavor. However I would also point out that some dairys are not as clean as others and that makes a big diffeerence. My aunt and uncle were clean freaks and there dairy opperation was clean and I have seen others were I can understand why they have the rules to pasturize milk. Guest guest
I'm jumping in here in the middle of the topic so I may be way off but drinking raw milk is totally different than drinking the milk we process. A calf can live off of his mothers milk but if you take the same calf and feed it the milk we drink the calf will die. The processing changes it a great deal. I love the creamy taste of half and half. I used to crave it and would buy it and drink like regular milk. Not the best for you health wise but sure tasted good. Dairy operations vary in cleanliness and the way they feed etc. There probably needs to be regulations and standards to keep us all safe from the variables. I envy people who have access to fresh milk that is clean and free from chemical feeds, etc. . Robin

Guest guest
Interesting article. Funny how the FDA has no problem approving poisons for us to take as medicine, and allowing people to pickle their livers in alcohol if they so wish, yet they can't abide to allow folks to drink raw milk if they want to make the educated choice to go out of their way to get it. :::shakes head in wonder::: Now personally i don't like raw milk. i never really cared much for drinking milk in the first place, but was raised having raw milk from my parent's friend's farm. My sister and i thought it was aweful we were so poor we couldn't enjoy the store-bought kind other kids used on their cereal. *lol* Funny for me to think about this being a luxury now. i think if people want to go out of their way to buy it these days that they should be able to do so. Just my 2¢. ~ pt ~ The last seed falls from the sunflower-- empty pond. The long awaited rattle of rain on rooftops-- Thanksgiving Day. ~ Michael P. I have a hard time believing that they aren't allowing the sale of raw, organic milk because they are concerned with health standards and that they are looking out for the consumer. Give me a break. They are looking out for the industry. I'd bet if they conclusively found that raw, organic milk (and the practices of producing it) were found much healthier and safer for the consumer than the current pasteurized practices and system they have in place, they'd find another reason to balk at the raw, organic milk mom and pop producing shops. It's amazing how paranoid they actually are. I mean the demand for raw milk isn't nearly as vast as the current consumption of the current standard type and yet they still feel the need to go into a defense mode (or I guess better yet, attack mode). They don't want consumer's money to go to a small farm outside of the loop and the system. > > Now personally i don't like raw milk. i never really > cared much for drinking milk in the first place, but was > raised having raw milk from my parent's friend's farm. > My sister and i thought it was aweful we were so poor > we couldn't enjoy the store-bought kind other kids used > on their cereal. *lol* Funny for me to think about this > being a luxury now. My Grandparent always had fresh milk from their farm when I was a child. I thought it was disgusting. I don't want a head on my milk! They would actually by the usual store bought for only me. lol. > i think if people want to go out of their way to buy it > these days that they should be able to do so. > Just my 2¢. I agree. ...and if they really wanted to, a standardized, strict practice could be implemented, regulated, monitored and adopted by the system for such the raw milk industry if they " wanted " to. However, they don't want to stop the money train from rolling - just keep pushing out what they have been for years. There doesn't seem to be a problem with pushing alcohol, cigs, triple-steroided cheeseburgers, double-stuffed oreos, cinnamon-bun waffles, and the classic fast food item that has a taco stuffed inside a pizza which is then stuffed inside a burrito which is then stuffed inside a sandwich (LOL) but they seem to have a problem with Raw, organic milk.
