Vegetarian Thanksgiving dinner

I just bought the Tofurky 3 1/2 lb. complete dinner. It feeds 6.

On the internet from the manufacturer it lists for $49.95 plus frozen

shipping which I think is around $15.00. Last year I had ordered it

from this web site.

I just now happened to find it at our local Sun Harvest store and it

was on special sale for $17.95. Since I hadn't found it there before,

I grabbed one (actually, the only one they had).

But now for the problem. This is much more than I can eat. Wanting

to share it with others, I asked friends and aquaintences if they

would like to get together for Thanksgiving and I would provide all

the food, vegetarian of course. None of them wanted to forgo eating

the corpse of a dead bird as well as numerous other animals, so

declined my offer. Although most invited me to their house for a dead

animal body part dinner. I declined as I find it very un-appetizing

to watch the dismembering of a dead animal on a dining room table.

Being in the southern-most part of Texas, where Texas dips a couple of

hundred miles below the northern-most border of Mexico, I'm sure there

are very few, if any, vegetarians in the area... at least I haven't

found any. And I have tried.

I suppose I will just fix half and save the rest for Christmas when I

will have the same problem. There will still be plenty of left-overs

for snacking for a few days after.

I don't mind eating alone but it would be nicer sharing a vegetarian

dinner with like-minded people, especially if there are some in this

area with the same problem as I.

I'm not complaining or looking for sympathy but I just thought that

someone in this group might have some suggestions that I havn't

thought of in finding other local vegetarians.

William,

I found this site (which charges a fee, so in my book it would be

out, but thought I'd send it along)

http://vegetarian.meetup.com/create/?ic=sn3

Vegetarian Associations Directory (quite a few in Texas)

http://www.vegparadise.com/directory.html

Maybe local churches or senior organizations would have ideas. I

think it's great that you are looking to share your meal. :) Hope

this helps. Let us know what you find out.

Most of the vegetarians I know I have met through my volunteer work with

animal rescue organizations.

You might also try starting a veg. group or " club " type of thing in your

area. Make lots of posters, put ads anywhere you can think of. You might

find a group of people that want to get together once a month with a

veg. potluck.

This won't help in time for Thanksgiving but would be fun to do.
