That would be fun!! I rarely get to Eugene - rarely get anywhere.

Crazy schedule. But might just have to make time.

What restaurant do you go to.

That would be fun. i have only been to Eugene once,

but it sure looked like a nice place to live. You all have

a Trader Joes up there, and i am soooooo jealous.

Do you have a Whole Foods or Wild Oats, too?

What is the veggie community like in your region?

~ pt ~

P.S. i just loved looking at your cross-stitch work, Linda.

i am also a x-stitch fanatic but i have yet to photograph

any of my work. Each year a design a mini xmas stocking

ornament for Yule gift giving, so i am busy stitching

those up now.

It's all a farce, n' these tales they tell

About the breezes sighing,

And moans astir o'er field and dell,

Because the year is dying.

I hear that a Whole Foods is coming here (Eugene) in 2007. Sherry? We just lost

our two Wild Oats stores a few months ago. But Market of Choice has been even

better IMHO and there are at least three of them in town. I go to Trader Joes

just for specific things and discovered a vegan raw dough pizza crust which is

lovely to use and so easy. They have two that are vegan, the corn pizza dough

being my favorite. I tried the other one too, I think it was a herb and garlic

one, but preferred the corn. We have a great vegetarian/vegan community. An

educational network (EVEN) which puts on a program once a month to help people

make the transition, a once a month potluck group, an activist group up on the U

of O campus, and lots of people working in animal welfare. I love it. Met a new

friend on this list that is in my area and we scampered immediately to our

favorite restaurant, the Lotus Garden which is totally vegan and superlicious.

We have lots of other eating places to go to for vegan foods, so of course you

know that you can get vegetarian foods there too. We have a store that is called

Sundance which is vegetarian and sells no meat products which is wonderful so

that you don't have to see all of the dead bodies lying around. We have a store

called the Kiva which has plenty of vegetarian food stuffs, but thankfully

Market of Choice has really taken to heart our needs and is really a full

service store for us. Thanks for the compliment on the cross stitch. Some of

them are needlepoint...like the wolf's head in the sky. I just took the pictures

a couple of weeks ago and put them on the photo thingie as I joined a

cross stitch group and was encouraged to do so. It has been a wonderful

experience and encouraged me to move on into different areas with the

needlework. Eugene is a busy little hot bed of liberals and radicals too. But

then it is a University town.

Ahhhh! I sorry. :( You'll just have to come north and enjoy what the rest of us

have. Holler at Safeway if you have one.

Our safeway has a really good oriental food deli - if you eat meat. They

consider chicken vegetarian. I had a couple discussions with the cooks

there. Wrote a comment card and got a call that said " all you have to do

is ask " . Asked again (twice) and was again (twice) that the chicken

dishes were vegetarian.

Yes, and frequently these places also use a broth that comes from an animal

making it not vegetarian and they don't get that since they left out the chunks

of meat. LOL

Safeway is a fairly bureaucratic entity. Rarely can local managers

make marketing decisions without it having to go back to headquarters.

But it does work to write suggestions. I repeatedly suggested to

people in our Safeway that they carry a soy yogurt - they carried

Nancy's dairy yogurt and Silk soymilks, so it should have been easy

for them to get the soy yogurt from one or both of these companies -

and Safeway was the only large grocery in town without soy yogurt.

After suggesting it for about a year, they finally got in a selection

of Silk soy yogurts. Only problem is, they cost about double what they

cost at other stores. They'll eventually catch on, maybe....

Peace and love,

Tom

Yup, that's the plan, and I can't wait!

I heartily concur with Linda, who introduced me to it -- the stuff is awesome!

It truly is. DH prefers it to all of his m*#t dishes he gets at

restaurants. My favorites are the sweet and sour (deepfried) nuggets (I

believe flavored seitan), though Linda has a favorite that's equally

good. And they even have a vegan " shrimp " tempura that's out of this

world. Also lots and lots of entrees that don't resemble meat products at

all. (I believe the making of vegetarian and vegan items to resemble meats

is a Buddhist tradtion so that those Buddhists who do not eat meat for

religious reasons can serve their guests something they're familiar with

but that will not cause suffering.)

Anyway, I was thinking, if those of you from inside and outside Oregon ever

want to come to Eugene, we could all get together at Lotus Garden.

And I can't imagine too many places that would be nicer to live in.

Sherry mentions the Lotus Garden and if we all ever have an Oregon get together

and go there she has to sit at another table though. Think about it. How does

this woman know how my food tastes when she had her own? <grinning big time>

I was in the mall last weekend (for the first time in a couple of years)

and stopped at the little oriental deli type place. They were very up

front when I asked if the chow mien was vegetarian. Doesn't have meat

but is made with chicken broth. Was impressed by their honesty so

thanked them and bought plane rice.

Oh, yes, Ashland has a reputation too. LOL Not saying about what though.

<grinning> People's Republic huh? Doesn't that sound dangerously close to

" People's Republic of China? " <smirk> How many anarchists have you there?

<giggle> Bet we beat you on that one.
