Guest guest
Well, even though i thought they looked aweful, my 12 year old son thought they were great! *lol* He isn't vegan either... but he got that they were probably trying to teach something in a funny exaggerated manner. i guess they might have made them for the teens as their target audience, and many teens like whacky gross stuff. They remind me of those Creep Show horror comics. ~ pt ~ It's a shallow life that doesn't give a person a few scars. ~ Garrison Keillor, radio host and author (1942- ) ~~~*~~~*~~~> , " linda " <lindai81@c...> wrote: > Well, no success in getting in direct contact with PETA. I did find this: http://www.peta.org/about/hottopic004.asp > Hot Topics: PETA's Latest Anti-Fishing Ad Campaign > " Our " Your Daddy Kills Animals " Campaign intends to help fathers understand the message that they are sending to their children by fishing. Many of us here at PETA are parents ourselves and agree that we should be concerned about what our kids are exposed to. Because our leaflet exposes the violence involved in fishing, we are not distributing this leaflet to children younger than 13.
Guest guest
If you read the main page on the leaflet it says that " children will read " and then of course at the other site it says the leaflet won't be given out to anyone under 13, but that it is aimed at the daddies who fish. I would only worry about children 11 or younger, especially younger, when told their father (and mother in the fur one) is a killer and they had best hide their pets. If I were a child I would be terrified of my " daddy " then. I didn't get a call back from PETA, but will continue to pursue it. I think I object to the idea of driving a wedge between the parent and child too in that manner. And risking making a younger child afraid of his parents, but if it were just given to 13 and older...or maybe your son....I do get the Creep Show horror idea though. I am for being truthful and reality oriented. I have never asked someone to go vegetarian/vegan, but I have told them the truth about why I am vegan when asked no matter how brutal they may find it. Don't ask and I won't tell. LOL I am going to let this thread stand intact just so if someone reads it they will be able to go look for it themselves if interested. It would be interesting to hear what others think. linda - ~ PT ~ Well, even though i thought they looked aweful, my 12 year old son thought they were great! *lol* He isn't vegan either... but he got that they were probably trying to teach something in a funny exaggerated manner. i guess they might have made them for the teens as their target audience, and many teens like whacky gross stuff. I'd say there is a big difference though, PT. You shared it with your son. You are an excellent parent and a vegetarian. So your son has been exposed and educated previously on vegetarianism and your views and so it's not as if he were blindsided by the insert. That's just my thought, though, as I have no children. i guess they might have made them for the teens as > their target audience, and many teens like whacky > gross stuff. Guest guest
My main objection to the leaflets though is the fact that they tell the kids to hide their pets otherwise daddy's killing instincts might take over and he might kill them. Goddess, if I were a child I would be quivering under my bed terrified of my dad. If he can kill the pets why not me? And the same goes for the mom ad. I am not opposed to children learning of the horrors and brutality inflicted on animals and draw out their natural compassion for animals and all things powerless and helpless. But I will not support making children terrified of the very people that are supposed to be protecting and loving them. The darn leaflet made me scared for crying out loud and certainly did not elicit the response that I think was desired. linda " Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it.
