Guest guest
If you didn't like Tofurkey the Now and Zen Un-Turkey is basically just like it. The gravy was excellent and so was the dressing that came with it too. But those that didn't like the Tofurkey in my family didn't like the Zen turkey either. They said it " squeaked. " Don't ask, I have no clue. linda " Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it. Guest guest
Thanks for the review, Linda. " Sqeaked " ! LOL. Does this have something to do with the texture against the teeth? Sorry, lol, had to ask. Too funny to pass up. Shawn On 11/24/05, linda wrote: > If you didn't like Tofurkey the Now and Zen Un-Turkey is basically just > like it. Guest guest
You just had to ask didn't you?!!! And after I told you not to, you bad girl you! LOL I have no idea, one of their private words I guess, however, just for you I have hounded them as to the meaning of " squeaked. " Okay, here it is and I quoteth, " it was like rubber, " " it tasted like chewing through the sole of a sneaker. " Yes, to answer your question now that I have the definitive definition of " squeaked. " It does indeed have to do with the texture against the teeth. Now the question is do you think a newspaper would hire me to be a restaurant reviewer? And pay me? Nah? <grinning> I see there is a toll free number to Zen...I just may call them and give the family's review. linda - subprong Thanks for the review, Linda. " Sqeaked " ! LOL. Tell your family that was a great description. I have never tried that product, however I knew what they were talking about. Geniuses, I tell you! Now the question is do you think a newspaper would hire me to be a > restaurant reviewer? And pay me? Nah? <grinning> Yes, I think they would. As for the sub par restaurateurs in your area who know that their menu is below standards....well, they may be running for the hills. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing your review, linda. This is basically what everyone seems to be saying about the Now and Zen. i liked the tofurkey alright, but not as much as the quorn brand roast, and also the tofurkey seemed more difficult for me to digest. i still want to try the Now and Zen sometime. Do they have a website listed on the box? i'd like to compare the ingredients with those in the tofurkey. ~ pt ~ You may not think that living with others is an art, but it is the finest and most difficult of arts. Guest guest
Well, my goodness, just send me your address and I will ship the remaining Zen to you free of charge. Wouldn't want to spend $17 on the thing just to try. I am sure that there will be no rot even by the time it gets to you. I called the store where we bought it this morning and explained to them about the ghastly Zen Un-Turkey fiasco on Thanksgiving Day. They felt really badly and are giving us a refund. We still had the receipt and the box and the unturkey. I asked if they wanted the un-turkey too so that they could see we didn't eat it...she was soooo funny. She gasped and said emphatically, " Oh, God, no!!! " I couldn't help keep from laughing. She also asked if I would drop a review by to the frozen meat manager and tell him of our review since he isn't a vegan/vegetarian. I shall be a " tigress " and do so. Yes, they do have a web site. http://www.nowandzen.net/unturkey.html for the un-turkey and http://www.tofurky.com/ for the other. Can't copy the zen unturkey ingredients since it was put in with the pictures. The ingredients that they give include the dressing. Now that I am looking at it there are some substantial differences in the ingredients. These are the ingredients just for the Tofurkey roast, without the dressing or gravy. Ingredients: water, vital wheat gluten, organic tofu (water, organic soybeans, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride), white beans, garbanzo beans, non genetically engineered corn starch, natural vegetarian flavor, expeller pressed non genetically engineered canola oil, shoyu soy sauce (water, non genetically engineered soy beans, wheat, salt, culture), spices, lemon juice, calcium lactate from beets. Don't forget to send me your address. linda " Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it. Guest guest
That is great the store will give you a refund. Thanks for posting the links and the ingredient list so i could compare. It seems to me the Tofurkey ingredients just sound more appetizing. As far as you sending me your leftovers... um, gee thanks, but no thanks. i have reconsidered. Did i ever say i lived in Oregon? Well, i lied. i live far, far away on a remote island in the South Pacific. i don't think we even get mail deliveries here anymore. ;P ~ pt ~ To make a man happy, fill his hands with work, his heart with affection, his mind with purpose, his memory with useful knowledge, his future with hope, and his stomach with food. ~ Frederick E. Guest guest
I bet it is the addition of the soy with the gluten that makes it not " squeak. " I think I saw where PETA was passing out free Tofurkey's somewhere back east....maybe in one of the New England states to show people that vegan foods are great. I just may have to try that again. I like a lot of the other tofurkey things, like the Italian sausages which are wonderful in other recipes. And did I tell you that I am a government agent from the CIA/FBI and have already located your whereabouts. Zen is on its way. Have a good day. LOL (no comments on the fact that if I work for the government you have no worries about ever being found) linda " Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it.
