Do any of you have a tried-and-true recipe for a lowfat yogurt dip that

would work well with veggies? I'm looking for one with lots of flavor so I

can't tell that it isn't sour cream<g>.

Thanks much,

The best way to make a yogurt dip is to drain it first, say in cheesecloth,

to make " yochee " (yogurt cheese). I've made a nice herb dip before with

jalapenos, but I don't remember where I put/got the recipe. But, my absolute

favorite has got to be variations on the roasted veggie theme. You simply

roast up some veggies, including garlic and onions, and process them in a

food processor or blender with the yochee. I saw this on Good Eats, where

he used sour cream. Here's a link to his recipe:

Here is one i like:

Take one cup vegennaise, one cup low-fat yogurt,

one envelope vegetable soup mix, one package

frozen chopped spinach that has been thawed,

drained and squeezed dry, and finally one can

of sliced waterchestnuts that have been drained

and chopped. Stir it all together and taste...sometimes

i add more garlic powder or dried chives and a squirt

of hot sauce.

Let the flavors combine by putting the dip in the

fridge to chill for a few hours.

Lowfat yogurt goes very well with the naturally low fat

vegan mayo. There are several brands out there, but i

highly recommend Vegennaise. :)

Thanks, Erin! I *love* the idea of using roasted veggies in the dip --

that's a great-looking recipe. The yogurt I made yesterday turned out

unusually thick, so I don't think I'll even have to drain it this time.

That sounds really good, PT -- thanks! I love spinach and water chestnuts

together, and I suppose I can use all yogurt for fewer calories and fat.

If you do that, you may want to do as a member

suggested before and make your yogurt thicker

by setting it in some cheesecloth... making some

yo-cheez. :)
