i saw our new healthfood store is carrying a few

types of vegan cheese. i was wondering which

brands people here like the best? i know we have

talked about them in the past, but i never paid

much attention since i could not find any around

where i live. Now that i've found some i notice

how expensive they are; i'd still like to try some,

but don't want to waste money on yucky brands. :)

Which brands melt good and have the best flavor?

Which brands have you hated?

Thanks!

The best by far is Vegan Gormet by Follow your heart.

I like the mozzarella and the cheddar is ok mixed with

mozz or monterey jack.

Vegan Rella! Very grainy. did not melt.

I also didn't like toffuti slices. They tasted like

plastic.

Good to know. Thanks susie. It will be nice to have

a healthier alternative to that beloved velveeta.

Isn't that the Texas state cheese? ;)

pt, I am reading this with curiosity as well; I have never dared try

the vegan " cheeses " after my first horrible tasting exerience (about

5or 6 years ago). I assume they are better now, but once burned...

*lol* When DH & I were driving through TX to get to CA, one night we

stopped to eat at a steakhouse (well, ya know, there weren't exactly

many other options... and they had a nice veggie pasta dish for me)...

you know how lots of restaurants bring out bread and butter, or bread

and olive oil, before your food arrives? This place brought out a

hunk of Wisconsin cheddar, and I mean a HUNK - I'm positive it was 5

pounds and not an ounce less. They served it with bread and a cheese

plane... but I can't imagine it was all that clean - don't you think

everyone would have to touch it somewhere to slice it?

LOL, PT... " isn't that the Texas state cheese? " Yes ma'am, it just about is

(comin' from a native Texan now down Georgia way...). So I too am glad there

is a healthier alternative to Velveeta. And that I can make queso again,

guiltfree.

Well, at least, that is--after I order the alternative online, 'cause there

ain't no such thing around here.

I am glad to know that Vegan Rella is not what I thought it would be, also;

was thinkin' about ordering some of that stuff.

Publix has some of its own soycheese, but it is sooooo strange; does not

melt (shudder!) and tastes/has mouthfeel like what I would imagine rubber

tires' consumption might be compared to. So, we've been buyin' organic

cheese...but I'd really still rather have vegan if at all possible.

Glad you asked the question so I could benefit too!
