Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I'm so busy trying to read digests and post in my group. I wanted to send this bacon sub. from my group recipe files since I saw a member here requested one. I tried it, very good. Enjoy! Donna Better Than Bacon vegan version recipe 1/2 cup soy sauce 1 tbs nutritional yeast flakes 1 tbs maple syrup 1/2 tbs liquid smoke 1/2 lb. extra-firm tofu, drained Mix the soy sauce, yeast flakes, maple syrup, and liquid smoke together in a shallow container. With a cheese slicer, shave the tofu into very thin slices. Marinate the tofu in the soy sauce mixture for 1 day or more. To cook, heat a lightly oiled, heavy skillet or non stick griddle over medium-high heat. When the pan is hot, fry the tofu slices until they are golden-brown and almost crispy on both sides, scraping underneath the slices as you turn them with a sturdy spatula. Turn several times during cooking, and cool in the pan (the " tofu-bacon " crisps up as it cools). This makes excellent " BLT " sandwiches and can be crumbled or diced and added http://group./ " Let the sound take you away. " " Magic Carpet Ride " Source: Steppenwolf DSL Something to write home about. Just $16.99/mo. or less

Guest guest
Thank you, Donna! Doesn't sound too hard to make. Except I've got to try and find the nutritional yeast flakes...I seem to remember seein' 'em in Kroger's, will have to check. Faux BLT's, here we come. :>) Bron On 12/7/05, purplepassion <thelilacflower wrote: > > Hi Everyone, I'm so busy trying to read digests and post in my group. Guest guest
FYI, cooking the tofu bacon is tricky: To get it crispy, with not too much oil or mess, and without sticking to the pan. For my second try (after I was done wiping up the oil that had spattered all over the kitchen) I dug out the ole George Foreman grill and it worked beautifully. Nice, crispy, slightly blackened (LOL) Better than Bacon!! Thanks so much for the recipe. It's yummy! Shelly , <southernflower@g...> wrote: > > Thank you, Donna! Doesn't sound too hard to make.
