Guest guest
Oh i sooooo agree, Amy. Once i had a recipe flop bigtime due to not pre-sauteing my onions before adding them to the crockpot. It was a diet-type hearty healthy vegan stew recipe that i had made stove-top before and loved, and i was so stoked to eat it after crockin' the recipe and smelling it cook all day. When i finally did take a bite it was so gross! i ended up tossing the whole pot since i could not fix it no matter what i tried. Dontcha just hate that? *lol* Maybe it was the onion type i used and they were extremely strong. Might not have happened with a sweet onion, like a Maui... but once burned, twice shy. Now i saute, saute, saute.... ~ pt ~ Honey, that's when your gut gets it before your head gets around to figuring it out. ~ Naomi Judd [singer], on the subject of intuition ~~~*~~~*~~~> , " Amy " <sandpiperhiker> wrote: > > It's for the flavor. Sorry it happened! Have you made it since then, with sauteed onions?

That's how I lost my head. Ah, so that's where it went!! ;-) BTW, nice to see the appropriate " duel " used rather than " dual " !!

Guest guest
I like those edges a bit blackened as well, Linda. I even like the garlic a bit blackened. If I " accidentally " let the onions, garlic and jalapenos (the Texas trinity or The Three Amigos) go to long...oops, oh well and all the better. Recently, I honestly did let them go too long for a stuffing recipe (non slowcooker). I added a bit of water to reconstitute the burnt bits in the pan - let me tell you after I added that to the stuffing it was great. Best stuffing yet. Amy, that's exactly how I sweat the onions in the crockpot! Get those going with some oil on high while I get the other things prepared. See, we all think alike on that one! :-) BTW, Shawn, I thought of you and the other " jalapeno crazies " online the other day... I met DH out for lunch at the coffee shop right near his office, and had a Garden burger (yeah, one of the grainy ones I don't usually like as much as the veggie ones)... but they had on it the usual lettuce and tomato... but the spread was jalapeno hummus! They went easy on the hummus when I originally asked for it without, but I'm glad I lethte proprietress talk me into it. They went so awesomely together! You might want to try it if you haven't yet.
