Guest guest
i don't think i could sweat my onions and peppers in the older crockpot i have because it is truly a slow-cooker. The older ones cook on a lower temperature, which i much prefer. i might try it with my newer crockette though. That sucker gets hot! Almost too hot for some recipes i like cooked slower. Thank you for the idea. ~ pt ~ To forgive is to set a prisoner free and to discover the prisoner was you. ~ unknown ~~~*~~~*~~~> , subprong <subprong@g...> wrote: > Amy, that's exactly how I sweat the onions in the crockpot! Guest guest
I had gotten a new crockpot, the kind that you can take the pot out of the cooker and wash it separately. Thing cooked like the house was on fire...so hot and so fast. I hated it. So went out and found me the old style where the pot doesn't come out, it is all ceramic, but it is small. However, it cooks slowly, very slowly as I desire it to do. You can actually cook it as the recipes call for rather than that rapid fire thing. Defeats the purpose of the slow cooker if you ask me (rhetorical statement). But it does mean having to brown things first, but the result is so much better. linda " Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it. Guest guest
PT and Linda, Don't your crocks have temp. control. My smaller one has low and high. My bigger one has warm, low, medium and high controls. Both are the type that the ceramic dish come out and the bigger model has electric controls for temp. and time settings. No more sweatin to the crockpot oldies. I had to have one that could be cleaned easily and one that didn't have a pastel color on it! Guest guest
Yes, and even on low it cooks like a bandit running from the posse. On high! ha! forget that...it isn't a slow cooker anymore. linda " Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it. Guest guest
They do get hot - so much so that I hate having to wait the few hours after shutting it off to empty and clean the sucker. Oh well - tis worth it. Nothing like dumping everything in a pot and letting it do it's thing. Little fuss after the prep. Guest guest
i agree, those newer crockpots can bring stews and soups to a boil sometimes even when they are set on low. i don't want my stews/soups to be boiling for 6 or 8 hours! *lol* Sometimes you can find older models at Goodwill for very cheap. ~ pt ~ You were once wild here.
