Guest guest
LOL, well, the odd sheep in the family is just the place to be. It causes people to look, see, and sometimes even grow. Being a Jewish Buddhist, vegan, and a homeschooler made us stand out. Being an American Buddhist I hadn't heard of Kathina day so went and looked it up...so see, your oddities educated someone today. <grinning> A Kathina celebration here would be most appropriate as it rains all of the time, however, it would be at the wrong time of the year since Oct is when our rains start and don't end until May. linda " Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it. " Mohandas Gandhi linda's Growing Stitchery Projects: womyn47 - Meg Kathina day (actually, that was in Nov this year) and we do a low key non-religious christmas. basically we do what we treasured from our childhoods and get together with family, all of whom celebrate a christian christmas. we put up a tree and lights outside, get some presents for the kids, etc. We dont take them to see santa claus or anything like that. This year we decided to send out peace cards instead of the typical holiday cards we usually send. We put a quote from the Dalai Lama on it " For as long as space endures and for as long as living beings remain, Until then may I too abide to dispel the misery of the world. " We're already seen as the black sheep of the family for not being christian, not eating meat and homeschooling, this card surely put us on the weirdo list with everyone else
Guest guest
Kathina day varies amongst sects, but we celebrated in early Nov since the temple near us is Thai, that's when they did it thus that's when we did it. 8 months of rain, eh?
