Hi Bron. That was a great report about how that

finger food party went over. i just knew everyone

would love your recipes. It is also so good that you

are meeting other vegetarians in your community.

i have a suggestion for thickening your boiled custard.

How about trying a few teaspoons of cornstarch?

That always works well for me to thicken up gravy,

stew, or Asian style sauces. It doesn't take a whole lot

to thicken things up, so go light with it and add more

as you need to.

Hi, PT. Yes, I'm very encouraged; I had a call from a lady just this

morning, raving about my food and reminding me to bring her " those wonderful

recipes " tomorrow night to church. :>)

There is another Christmas party at church this coming Friday night for the

whole church family. It is catered and they provide two kinds of dead animal

flesh :<( to eat. My dh, Jim, went to the man in charge and paid the money

required. The man asked him, " which kind of me*t do you want? chicken or

turkey? " and Jim said, " Neither one. We're vegetarians. " Jim said he thought

the man (who is in his 70s) was going to bust a gasket in shock. He said,

" you don't eat me*t?? " and Jim says, " no, we don't. " So the man says, " well,

I'll put you down for both then, because you have to have me*t, " and Jim

says, " No sir, *please* don't put us down for both, put us down for

*neither*, or else we will not be coming to this dinner; you *don't* have

to have me*t, we never do & if you put us down for it, we can't in good

conscience participate. " The fellow cleared his throat, shifted his feet

from side to side, looked at the floor, looked at Jim, and finally said,

" Well--okay, if you're sure, no me*t, then? We really want y'all to come to

the dinner, all right. There will be plenty of vegetables and breads, I know

that. " He scratched off " chicken " and " turkey " next to our names and put

" NONE " in big capital letters, gave Jim a weak smile and said, " Well, we'll

see you at the party then, don't be late, 7 sharp, now! " patted him on the

arm and turned around and walked away.

Poor old geezer. :>) Likely that's the first contact he's ever had " up close

and personal " with vegetarians--and we don't even look like freaks! LOL.

That's a great idea about the cornstarch, PT, thank you! I'll be sure and

try it. Actually, you know, thinking about the making of the boiled custard,

it's gonna be a lot easier from now on to make it, because I won't have to

cook all the eggs in that suspension. There was always the danger of eggs

curdling and ruining everything. So now I won't have that problem either.

Veging solves SO many things all at once, doesn't it?
