Guest guest
We have put an offer in on a house and there is moss on the shingles on the roof. Everything that we have seen in the stores to get it off is ghastly...loaded with toxins, poisons...killer stuff with horrendous warnings. Does anyone know a way to get the moss off without this stuff? Our whole house inspection is going to include the moss, and we don't want them to require it be removed by the owner if they are going to use such environmentally damaging removal stuff. linda " Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it. Guest guest
Found these: Most were a variant of this - http://www.pesticide.org/RoofMoss.html And here's one interesting alternative - http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/0409/p19s01-liga.html
Guest guest
Guess where I live? Western Oregon, just the place that they are talking about in the first article. And just two hours from Portland, OR where the second article is coming from. We just get a lot of rain and moisture, but I haven't heard of anyone using anything else besides the poisons. Sidewalks are prone to the moss too. These articles are really helpful...thanks so much. And it explains the zinc strips. We do have trees, huge beautiful evergreen trees...three of them, 50 feet probably or more, but too incredible to trim them as suggested in the article. However, getting up there on the roof or hiring a bonded and insured person to do it would work and then maybe the strips since we aren't near any running water and only in the areas that are prone to it. I love the idea of an ecoroof, but ours has only one flat place and the moss isn't there and it would probably not work for us anyway according to the article. But how fascinating! Thanks for sending these, Amy! I want to go back and read more of each site. linda - Amy Found these: Most were a variant of this - http://www.pesticide.org/RoofMoss.html And here's one interesting alternative - http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/0409/p19s01-liga.html

Guest guest
You going to come over and do the job? LOL I think we will try what the article that Amy sent and check out hiring it done so that I don't fall off the roof and unable to cook anymore. The house inspector may know of someone that can do the cleaning...power washer...but my understanding is that the power washer could devastate the shingles lifting them and driving water underneath, but perhaps if we can't scrub it off there is someone that knows how to do it with the power washer. Thanks for the suggestion. Really nice to know that I can get help with these odd things in a recipe room. Thanks! linda " Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it. " Mohandas Gandhi----- subprong A power washer, perhaps? Guest guest
Hey, you never know. If I'm ever in the area, I'll do it for yall in exchange for a good vegan dish. Btw, I should have said " pressure " washer. Have them get on top of the roof and spray that sucker downwards. Add some of that non-toxic solution (that Amy mentioned) to the water source, spray it and knock that sucker out. Whoop those dudes into shape. Good luck with the house buying. S.
