Guest guest
I have found a couple of recipes that call for anchovies which of course have mommies so I don't eat...could I substitute capers for the anchovies...a think most of the recipes were for dressings/sauces and were put into the blender. linda
Guest guest
The crack chef at Adam's Place substitutes capers for tiny shrimp in that southeast Asian salad they're famous for. He says it contributes the same general element to the dish. Or you could try our old Thai fish sauce replacement friend, black bean sauce. Or maybe just a little touch of nori or other seaweed would do. Actually, if you have the time and inclination, you could make the sauce or dressing in question, divide it into four portions, then blend one of the flavorings into each, the fourth with none, and see which you like best. Then you can report it to the group and collect your fee LOL Sherry (still debating <g>) At 04:25 PM 1/3/2006, you wrote: >I have found a couple of recipes that call for anchovies which of >course have mommies so I don't eat...could I substitute capers for >the anchovies...a think most of the recipes were for >dressings/sauces and were put into the blender. >linda
Guest guest
Sure! i would do that. i love capers. i have never had an anchovie knowingly, so i don't know how they compare taste to taste and i frankly don't want to know! *lol* But capers have a very complex flavor that lends itself well to dressings and sauces. i always use them in my spaghetti sauce... delightful things. ~ pt ~ Your ears are yours alone. Guest guest
Okay I'll try the little experiment...on the very next day that you come into the " big city. " LOL Think I will try the capers first. Hope I can find them in the organic. So much to do, so much to remember, so little time. And if you think I am naive enough to bite on the fee bit you are in for a surprise when you open the mail box and find my bill. Is a " crack chef " a chef on crack? Or just a chef with a crack? linda " Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it. Guest guest
Haven't tried it yet...today we were really busy with house looking and collecting the escrow money that we had put down on the house that we wanted that didn't work out since the foundation was going to pot and the owners wouldn't negotiate on it. Somewhat of the pits. Maybe I will get it done tomorrow or Friday. linda - Amy :-) Hey, we all are brilliant in our ways! How did you like it?
