Guest guest
What was absolutely terrifying about the beets was the fact that the water turned brilliant red and I kept dripping the juice as I was taking off the skin which you do after you cook them. I suggested to my daughter that we dye her hair red so as to not waste the juice. As it was the counter top got a few red spots that had to be scrubbed to get the red out of. Then later that night when I went to bed I brushed my teeth and thought I needed immediate dental care...really and truly...then started laughing as I saw my tongue was bright red too and it was from the beets. I am not sure that I will cook beets again but maybe because I do enjoy beets occasionally especially on salads. Just kind of messy, takes a lot of electricity to cook, but even though they were organic they were inexpensive...99 cents a pound and made a lot...probably 3 cans worth. linda " Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it. " Mohandas Gandhi linda's Growing Stitchery Projects: womyn47 - southernflower I agree, the pics of the vegies and the fruits too, are very helpful, Linda. I tell you what, you eat more beets for me! I loathe the things...if they taste the same fresh as they do canned, that's quite enough evidence for me to continue my boycott of them. ;>) Thanks for the info to that effect. <snicker> Bron
Guest guest
Have you tried making borscht from fresh beets? mmmm. I just tried a borscht recipe from one of my mags and was it good. It used canned tomatoes, in addition to the beets, which definitely gave it a bit something extra. If anyone is interested, I can track down the recipe and post it. linda wrote: > I am not sure that I will cook beets again but maybe because I do > enjoy beets occasionally especially on salads.
