Guest guest
I checked at the store yesterday and the package is indeed gold and is semi-sweet. Now I have to find a really dark chocolate...I love that. I just know that you can find it out there when you go looking. Chocolate is vital to life...the top nutritional item to longevity. Oh, not sure how many of you use Tofutti sour cream...there are two kinds...one is hydrogenated and one isn't. You have to read the labels to tell. Of course the hydrogenated tastes better...isn't that always the way. And Tofutti makes cream cheeses that are very good. One is plain and then there is one that is herb and garlic...my favorite. There may be other flavors too but not at my store. Okay, now for my recipe....sort of anyway....One package of Tofutti sour cream, one package of Simply Organic French Onion Dip, and a horde of dried dill weed. I say horde because everyone has their own tastes. I love it so I dump it in until it hits the spot. This is all vegan (the maltodextrin listed is made from corn starch). Let the ingredients blend for at least 1/2 hour or it will be crunchy...the onion has to rehydrate. My son-in-law had this without the dill and loved it so much he ate the whole thing. Drats! I used it with the dill on latkes last night. For shame...probably not Jewish. LOL My daughter did a crazy thing and mixed the tofutti sour cream with applesauce together for her latkes. linda - southernflower Linda, if so, I mean that the package is gold, I am SURE I have seen those gigantic bags (24 oz. plus) at Sam's! WOO HOO! How exciting! Of course, it was a long time ago that I saw them...when we lived in Florida, but surely if they were there, they'd be in Georgia too? I am hoping, at least, that this will be the case. But I won't have the funds to buy any until a week from today, so it's moot right now. I can dream, though! And you DID spell " Ghirardelli " right <G>. Thank you so much for your encouragement about the process of going vegan, too,;that means a lot. And if it's okay with you, I'd like to pass along those words to my dear friend up North, whom I've spoken of, who is now going vegan herself. I think that would encourage her too. She wrote and asked me, " Bron, do we eat Cool Whip now? " How cute, huh? She has thrown out everything in her cupboards, fridge and freezer that are non-vegan things, and today is headed to the library to look for the vegan cookbooks I've told her about. If she can't find them, she'll do an ILL throughout the system. She said that " your excitement is catchy " and has engaged her grown daughter to embark on this new journey with her as well! Isn't this neat? Well, just wanted to share. :>) So far the only really hard part has been giving up cheese--which I do believe I'm " over " now, after two weeks of none of same, and giving up the chocolate chips, which is going to be a lot harder than the cheese was...but as you say, and as I've said, it's the principle of the thing, after all. Bron P.S. Thanks for keeping an eye out for me for the chocolate chips! We don't have a Trader Joe's around here either, but I sure would like to see one from what all I've read that they stock. If you find the chips, let me know and I'll send you the money for 'em, okay? Guest guest
Gold, and semisweet. Okay. We'll go lookin' for it this weekend. Chocolate sure is vital to MY life, anyway! :>) I make our sour cream with tofu, haven't seen the Tofutti kind. Didn't know they made it, actually; thought they only made those cute little ice cream sandwich thingies or little tubs of 'ice cream'. Your dip sounds good though; I have just finished a bowl of rice with mushrooms and onions cooked in it, mixed with gumbo vegies, and I am stuffed full--but it sounds delish! Guest guest
Tofutti sour cream usually can be found in the section where they keep the regular sour cream and Tofutti cream cheese in the area where they have the regular cream cheese. I think it is way better than the kind I made with the tofu. linda southernflower Gold, and semisweet. Guest guest
Well, it's great it's in your store, but it isn't thus far in ours. We have some sort of generic vegan cream cheese put out (I think by Publix, a Southern store) which I haven't tried yet...but maybe I will. Of course, not having anything to compare makes it realll easy. LOL Bron On 1/9/06, linda <lindai81 wrote: > > Tofutti sour cream usually can be found in the section where they keep the > regular sour cream and Tofutti cream cheese in the area where they have the > regular cream cheese.
