Guest guest
The QOTW [question of the week] is: Now that the holiday gift-giving time is pretty much over, did you get any food related gifts from your family and friends in 2005? Glad they did? Wish they didn't? *lol* ~ pt ~ It is one of the severest tests of friendship to tell your friend his faults.Ê So to love a man that you cannot bear to see a stain upon him and to speak painful truth through loving words, that is friendship. ~ H. Guest guest
I know that I already mentioned this, but since it answers the weekly question why not use it again? I am a believer in reusing, recycling and the other R which I can't recall at the moment. (make do?) My daughter's mother-in-law had us over for Christmas and she cooked a huge entire, completely vegan Christmas dinner. And it was delicious and wonderful too! Now that is really something! Guest guest
I gave myself a new 6 1/2 quart programable crockpot and a temerature controlled dehydrater. I've enjoyed using both. The middle of the three tins, about 12 inches across by 3 inches high, was completely filled with salted cashews! (All gone now ;-)) Sherry P.S. Guest guest
Too funny, Meg! And on top of everything, vegetarian marshmallows are nearly impossible to find! Guest guest
OH! I forgot...we also got a shot glass checkers board which we regifted to hubby's brother. He said the loser drinks the equivalent of about 4 beers per game, can you imagine if they had actually used liquor? Alcohol poisoning waiting to happen. yes, a fine year indeed for gifts. I'm not complaining, just ruminating over the ignorance, LOL. meg Angela wrote: > ROTF LMAO > oh Meg this cracked me up, you have a great way with words. > now, have you thought of a similarly appropriate gift for this giver > for next year?? > > Meg <itszen4me wrote: > we got an indoor s'mores maker. Glad they did? Wish they didn't? *lol* Food related - cookbook: Hot Drinks for Cold Nights, very cool! cookbook: Chez Panisse Vegetables, very cool too; not vegetarian, but inspiration since we ate there on the Thanksgiving trip " noncook " book: Eating in the Raw by Carol Alt. Very interesting, and I may use some ideas to up my raw food intake. Surprisingly, not vegetarian. appliance: KitchenAid stick blender! I posted a while back asking about stick blenders since I'd burnt out three... well, I had made a list of models to go look at but hadn't gone looking... DH's family bought me this one, and it's pretty awesome. food: dark hot chocolate mix, yummy! food: giftcard to Jamba Juice (smoothies) Ok, so almost all of my gifts were food-related. For DH (and his family), it's an easy pick!

Guest guest
> Now that the holiday gift-giving time is pretty much > over, did you get any food related gifts from your family > and friends in 2005? Glad they did? Wish they didn't? *lol* i have one " glad they did " gift, and one " wish they didn't " . Wish They Didn't: A family member sent me one of those " fancy-food " gift baskets from Northern California Wine Country. It is a beautiful basket, but i wish they didn't because i am sure it cost way too much and the food stuffs in it are just fancy packages of over-priced crap. There was a Merlot cheese spread that was worse tasting that i remember Cheez Whiz being. *lol* But, it was a nice gesture, and i appreciated the thought behind it, i just wish they hadn't done it and saved their money instead. Glad They Did: At first glance i thought this gift was going to be a " wish they didn't " , but it has ended up being a glad they did gift. My sister got me a year's subscription to EVERYDAY FOOD magazine, by Martha Stewart. At first i was like, " Oh no... not another omnivore cooking magazine that will be filled with recipes i will never make... " . But after looking at the first issue i got in the mail i see there are many recipes i will try in it, and most of the meat recipes should be easy to convert or just ignore. They list all the recipes and give shopping lists with each one. i think it is very cool now and am so glad she did. ~ pt ~ Something opens our wings. Something makes boredom and hurt disappear. Guest guest
My vegetarian sister and her veggie family sent me the book FRESH FROM THE VEGETARIAN SLOWER COOKER and so far so good. I'm going to be experimenting with the Seitan from Scratch tommarow. And they sent me a cute " Give Peas a Chance " t-shirt from GoVeg. Unfortunately, we also received this huge tin of absolutely delectable cookies dipped in chocolate that keeps calling my name. I am wearing ear plugs around that darn tin until it's out of the house. One other thing that I received that isn't food related but I would like to add to the list. My husband's adult daughter tried so hard to get me something that I would like that would be vegetarian. She was so proud of herself giving me this beautiful set of hair and make-up brushes, very high quality and she beamed when she informed me that she made sure that the case is " faux leather " . Unfortunately, it did not occur to her that the brushes were boar's hair. I contacted the company, hoping that just maybe the small make-up brushes were synthetic. No, they are made from pony and goat hair. I won't use it (I just can't) but I can't tell her either. I'll just put it aways somewhere. She was so proud that she had taken my vegetarian lifestyle into consideration :0) Stef
