Are Channa the same as Chick Pea/Garbanzo's? It seemed like some sites I looked

at said it was, while others said it was chick peas with tomatoes, onions and

other spices?

Thanks,

Judy

Yes channa is Chick Peas/ Garbanzo. Sorry I must remember to put the

other names as well as the local names. If you are using dried chick

peas you should soak them overnight with a little bit of baking

powder.

Channa dhal is not chick pea. Here is a page with pictures although

it is hard to see since there are no closeups. I would say it is

closer in size to mung bean. If you go to Atlanta, I am sure you

could find some. I would just substitute any bean or lentil for

channa.

Channa Masala is garbanzo. Channa dhal is similar to split yellow peas or yellow

lentils (of which there is a HUGE shortage due to poor wwather in India and

prices are sky-high for the real stuff!).
