Guest guest
Wow! I am feeling really blessed! We always had Trader Joe's. Initially, we lived in Southern California and shopped in the very first Trader Joe's. Then, we moved, begrudgingly, to Chicago and I was a wreck about not having Trader Joe's and sure enough, they built one there! Having to relocate to Northern California, I informed my husband, " we are not moving anywhere that is not within a half hour of a Trader Joe's " and low and behold, they built them in the Bay area. I suggest that if you really want one, write to them. My sister said that she and all her friends wrote to TJ's about getting into Minneapolis and sure enough, they now have a Trader Joe's. If you wait long enough, they'll build one! BTW, here in Caliofrnia, they have made a point of never selling genetically modified or hormonally supplemented foods. They have a large selection of organics and are now, admittedly after pressure, not selling caged hen eggs. Shen PEACE!
Guest guest
Good idea about the ice chest . When I lived in the mountains I had an hour's drive to the market. They supplied a piece of dry ice for my ice chest so my food would stay frozen/cold. Worked great. A bag of ice will do the same. - In , Donnalilacflower <thelilacflower wrote: > > Perfect! Guest guest
Hi, again, When they say " coming soon " , they seem to mean it. Apparently when my friends in Albuquerque got a " coming soon " , it was there within three months. A lot of ' " wait time " seems to have to do with city regulations etc. Here in Berkeley, it took a while because the developer had to agree to a certain amount of affordable housing going with the " strip mall " . We are, after all, probably, I think luckily, the most liberal place in America. My sister in MN said it wasn't even on TJ's site. She saw a sign and two months later, it opened. TJs is very affordable. I do all my shopping there and at our local Berkeley Bowl whose produce section seems to be the size of a football field! Only when I really can't find what I want and if it hasn't turned up in my CSA box do I go to Whole Paycheck. The only thing that really made me nuts about them in the last few years is if a product doen't seem to sell well, they dump it - we loved the wasabi mayo (it's gone) and they did turn to another manufacturer for their yogurts which used to be fruit juice sweetened and now is raw cane. Our local manager said if enough folks complain or request they will respond. Shen Shen
Guest guest
Gosh, I am not bashing Whole Foods. I am merely stating that they are expensive. Co-ops and other natural foods sources are much less expensive. I do know that people work there......over the years, I have met with John Mackey several times in an effort to work out a joint in-store Complementary Medicine Program. John Mackey tries to be a decent fellow. However, as an alternative practitioner, I realize that the nutritional support I recommend for many of my patients is just NOT affordable at Whole Foods. Their stores, BTW, are not in lower class/lower income neighborhoods and inaccessible on many levels to most people. Exclusion, inevitably, affects all of us. This is reality - not a bash. I know, as a fact, having been a " co-oper " for many, many years that good, healthy foods are available without the profit or overhead that Whole Foods sustains. I do sometimes wonder if Whole Foods were not under the guidance of John Mackey who purports to be an ethical man and if he were separate from the Whole Foods experience, would he consider Whole Foods involved in price gouging.
