Guest guest
I ADORE TJs. Definitely check it out, if possible. They have great products under their own brand, as well. I particularly love their tofu corn dogs and their breakfast patties. YUM. Sometimes my friends and I compare products that we buy there. Often you can miss some great product until a friend raves about it. For example, I love the jars of Curry Masala. I combine 2 or 3 of those with fried tofu and a bunch of veggies. Simmer the whole mess for 30 or 40 minutes (I don't dilute the jars as recommended - so much better that way) and I serve over rice. YUM! Guest guest
I have to drive about the same distance to Trader Joe's, but I drive even farther to Jungle Jim's in Fairfield, OH. They have a site on line, and the store is to die for!!! Guest guest
We just moved to near St. Louis and there's a Trader Joe's there. My sister in San Diego has been ranting about that place ever since she found the one there, and for good reason. They've got some of the neatest stuff! It is *very* vegetarian friendly and there's just so much stuff. Plus they had a sample table with this strawberry kiwi juice, which was the best juice I ever had. A lot of their meat alternatives like Morningstar Farms and Boca were even cheaper than at Wal-Mart! Great place. Guest guest
They always have new products, if you are curious about a chip or cracker they will gladly open a bag for you to try. They are hepful, friendly, will order items for you if possible and the prices are fantastic, they keep the checkstands moving too. No long lines. I'm in love with their Tahitian vanilla. I've been shopping there since they opened and the one store wasn't close. Now there are 5 almost walking distance to me so I'm hoping this means they are going to get moving across the U.S. The main store is in Pasadena and it's huge, they even sell pots and pan, cookbooks. What a store that one is. I noticed each store is a little different and one store will carry and item that's not in the next store. Guest guest
Wow, I didn't know they'd open a bag for you. I always look forward to their free samples, though. They have a little booth set up where they always offer free coffee, free juice, and free fixed food using ingredients they sell. It is often vegetarian. For example, once they had a salad with their mixed organic greens, Annie's salad dressing, and their toasted bread slices. I bought every one of the ingredients to replicate, it was so yummy. Another time they had their vanilla yogurt, their Joe O's (cheerios) and their banana chips. Yummy little breakfast. In fact, I often shop there after dropping the kids at school, so a light breakfast is welcome. One time they had scrambled eggs with " sausage " and my meat eating daughter gobbled it up, telling me how yummy it was -- then she discovered that it was made with tofu sausage and those healthier boxed eggs. She then declared it wasn't so yummy, after all. ;-) They offer healthier versions of many " regular " products. Their Moo Sauce is like Hershey's Chocolate sauce, but has no high fructose corn syrup. (It is a bit harder to mix in milk, but it is fine and it's great on ice cream.) Their version of ketchup also has no high fructose corn syrup. I also buy their organic veggies (both frozen and fresh), their frozen minced garlic, their frozen pesto (both of these are sold in little cubes). My kids really like their breakfast bars " A Strawberry Walked Into a Bar " , which are basically like giant fig newtons. They also like the apple flavor. My kids love their Jo Jo's, which are like Oreos, but come in 4 flavors and have no hydrogenated fats. (I don't buy those too often, but the kids like all 4 flavors - even the spicy ginger.) And, yes, their prices are amazing. They sell the little containers of lemon juice and key lime juice for 99cents. I've seen the same container at Albertsons for $1.20 and I've seen it at Mollie Stone's for even more. Guest guest
I want a Trader Joes Store near me! Maybe they would be a little more affordable? We have a Whole Foods about 35 minutes away and I like it OK but I always feel a little out of place. Seems to be in a " higher rent district " of town and so are their prices. Way to pricey for my family of 5. I have about the same budget every week for groceries and so I have to make that money stretch. I also have to take into account the cost of driving that distance. It's not liekly we will get anything like TJ but I sure would like it! Robin
Guest guest
Everyone is making me miss my old home with all this talk of Trader Joes...I used to live in Arlington, MA, with a Trader Joe's literally across the street, a Penzeys right down the road and both a Whole Foods and a Wild Oats less than 20 minutes away, not to mention Harvest co-ops and tons of other great stores for veggie stuff. Now I'm in Syracuse NY and, though we have a good co-op, its just not the same. My paren't still live in Arlington, so I have to rely on their visits to get my TJ's fix...still can't get the refridgerated/frozen stuff though and thats what i really miss. Their prices are so fabulous too. ~Rachael All-new Mail - Fire up a more powerful email and get things done faster.

I think that are grossly overpriced and cannot afford their prices. I am retired and on my own with only my social security so I have to watch my pennies. I do sometimes shop at Trader Joe's. If you have a Whole Foods I would think there is a good chance of a Trader Joe's opening. By the way, I am from northern Illinois
Guest guest
I stopped by Whole Foods just the other day after a Pet Sitters meeting. I went to the prepared case and picked up something.... maybe Pimento Cheese???... anyway for a small container it was $9 and change. It wasn't even enough to get 5 sandwiches out of. I wish there was a good resource in the shopping experience that was on the frugal side. I think it's a shame that they are so high. I'd shop more often and buy more if they weren't. Guest guest
I see items priced like this in a regular grocery chain, re: pimento cheese. The grocery chain wanted $3.89 for a small box of Wheat Thins last weekend, that is way out of line. I pay $3.49 for a large jar of Veganaise at Whole Foods, the market carries 1/2 the size for $3.89. I buy beans and grains at Wholes Foods, their brand of 4 frozen veggie burgers are $2.69 so I think you have to know what you are buying and where the deals are. My grocery bill is very small and I shop between Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. Donna --- Whittington5 <critters wrote: > I stopped by Whole Foods just the other day after a > Pet Sitters meeting. Guest guest
Have you not heard of the Whole foods effect? People in up and coming neighborhoods plead with Whole Foods to put a store in their area because right after they open real estate in the area skyrockets in price. They call this " the Whole Foods effect " . Seriously. Debbie
