Guest guest
Are they also dried fava beans? Would the canned butter beans be fava's or large lima beans, I don't have my beans straight now. Lima, fava and butter, I can't tell when they are dried. Guest guest
I had to look this up too. Lima beans and butter beans are indeed synonymous, as Paula describes. However, fava beans are something different. They are pretty close though as the family and subfamily (fabaceae faboidaea) are the same. The scientific classifications diverge at the tribe level (phasealeae - lima beans, vs vicieae - fava beans). Here's where I found this and much more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lima_bean http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fava_bean Hope this helps you identify your dried beans. -Erin www.zenpawn.com/vegblog , " Sue " <hippiewildflower wrote: > > Are they also dried fava beans? Guest guest
Now that the topic of lima beans is open, I have to say something. Being a southerner, we do distinguish between lima beans and dry lima beans. We don't eat dry lima beans because they are enormous, too big for a bitein your mouth, while butter beans are small green, tender and certainly have nothing to speak of in common with the things being called lima beans! Southerners eat butter beans and you have not lived unless you have made succotash with butter beans and corn. That is to just pig out for. So all you people who are NOT southerners, just remember lima beans are big and not dainty and taste a lot like dry lima beans only cooked. And, fix a " mess " of succotash and pig out...
