Guest guest
Fritz! I responded to this post but maybe it didn't come through and even included some sites to look at. yes, vegans eat yeast whether it is baking yeast or nutritional yeast. there isn't anything in it to prevent a vegan from eating it although I have heard that some are processed through cane sugar which has been processed through bone char but otherwise it has been processed through molasses which is vegan. linda - " ~ PT ~ " <patchouli_troll > Kristi asked: " Also, do vegans use yeast? Guest guest
One caveat I can add to the vegans eating yeast is that some of the nutritional yeast might have " whey " as an ingredient...which is a milk product. I couldn't find any nutritional yeast here in Waco in a large enough size, so I ordered from online and got some from TwinLab, and the second ingredient listed is " whey. " It tastes great, just like I remember from the old days, and I'm thrilled to have it!, but for the vegans, it would be " no way! Guest guest
Hi! I bought the nutritional yeast to sprinkle over popcorn, and add to dishes to give a cheesy flavor and to try the recipe for some of that non-dairy cheese sauce that was posted awhile back. When I shopped for it here in Waco, I only found the brewer's yeast for $15 a pound, and a tiny little vitamin sized bottle of nutritional yeast for 8 dollars and something....so I found the twinlab after some internet shopping for about 10$ per lb, including the shipping. It was 7 something per 1 lb pre-shipping charge. It tastes great! I just got it this evening, but already added a tsp. to my steamed cauliflower-- and I'm also going to put some on my popcorn tonight. I usually spray the popcorn with some " light " butter spray product to make the spices stick. Guest guest
I'm a vegan and I use yeast. Why wouldn't we? Its a common food allergen, but there's absolutely no animal products in it. It's fungus. And " nutritional yeast " can be used to make a neat substitute for cheese. Dave , " ~ PT ~ " <patchouli_troll wrote: > > Kristi asked: " Also, do vegans use yeast?
