I would love to have one of those " garlic twisters " that everyone in here

was raving about at Christmas time, but they were a little spendy if they

didn't really work well. And I mean WELL! I have tried so many different

kinds of garlic gadgets and spent so much money on them and they never

worked! I am a slow learner. I would love to know how those people that got

the garlic twister like it now. That is the only gadget I can think of at

the moment. I am into buying less, making do and just ceasing to obey Bush's

rule...be a consumer. My way of getting back at him!

I do a lot of garlic and anything that would help with that would be my

ideal. If you use a lot of fresh garlic then you will know what I mean. If

the recipe calls for 3 cloves I will use 8. LOL And I smell like it, but I

am not using it as much as I would like since it is work...my daughter

doesn't want me to find anything that will enable me to use even more

garlic.

I've rather splashed out in recent months on kitchen equipment so my

wish list has been fulfilled. I bought a juice extractor/smoothie

maker with Christmas money and have used it almost every day since,

contrary to my fears at the time that it might sit at the back of my

cupboard unused, and I bought a food processor a few weeks ago which

I have also used a fair bit. But the thing I have probably been most

pleased with is a new Swiss garlic press. I thought it was a bit

pricey when I first saw it but decided to give it a go. It crushes a

clove of garlic without the need to peel it first and the peel is

easily removed with a knife - hey presto, clean fingers that don't

smell of garlic and easily cleaned garlic press. Works like a dream.

Here is a picture of it (NAYY) - it may be possible to get something

similar over there: http://www.lakelandlimited.co.uk/product.aspx/!

Sounds like we are back at the George Clooney discussion. Yep, I'll take one

of him for my kitchen gadget too.

We bought a quesadilla maker and use it often. Very versatile.

I saw a small thing call the Bullet and it looked like a grinder

chopper thingy, didn't stop to look at it, from what I saw, looked

intertesing and wouldn't take up much room. I never remember to get a

lemon squeezer, I guess I should put those two things on a post-it note

and take a look.

For those of you that may not have had time to answer our

question of the week [QOTW] for March 26th - April 1st:

What are some kitchen gadgets you want and are saving

your money to buy?

What specific way will they help make your vegetarian

cooking easier?

Knife set.

Melody's lonely ice-cream maker.

Melody's lonely pressure cooker.

We'll make her feralcycle them to me! ;)

Well they say that cutting with a sharp knife is safer than with a dull

one. I also think I can get through the cutting process easier and quicker.

Actually I would also like a spice rack that can be carried around. Does

this sound crazy - I envision one of those cleaning caddies or a tackle

box.

Definitely. ANd one thing to remember is to use the knife in a

slicing motion, not a chopping motion, however small . I took a knife

skills class a month or two ago and it was good thing to do.

I've always liked these, though unfortunately I don't have one:

I think Zyliss is a Swiss company. I've seen many of their items at

bed bath & beyond type stores. Honestly though, I think the twister

thing is better, although if you really like that style, I did have an

Ecko press I bought in a grocery store that was awesome, very like the

Zyliss, except that the tool was embedded in the back of the press -to

use it you just turned the other way. That way you wouldn't lose the

little doohickey.

I don't think I could ever go back to any type of press or anything other

than the Twist. I could list tons of reasons but I'll list the strangest

reason.

The Garlic Twist is smaller, round and clear. It sits in the corner of my

utensil holder - by resting there I do not have a wrestling match trying to

pull it out of the other long handles type of gadgets and utensils such as

those presses, spatulas and such.

Sure that means no more yelling at the spatula and tongs for getting in your

way and lodging the drawer from opening but I'll have to learn to live

without yelling at inanimate objects.
