Guest guest
I hate bailing in here on this so why do I do it anyway? I would ask " Why on earth do you believe that " God " put animals who feel pain on earth for us to pillage and plunder for our own desires. Cause we sure don't need them for food in this day and age and in this country? " Then if they are religious you can point out to them that when " God " created the world humans were the last thing that he created and he was told he was to name and care for the animals. God ordered Adam and Eve to eat of the plants and fruits, but the first people were vegans. They did not and were not allowed to eat animals. The after the flood God told the humans that they could eat meat because he knew they were weak. But that was not the original intent but only a concession to the human beings weakness. What do I eat as a vegan...everything that you do except for foods that come from animals in any way shape or form including products other than foods. What do you eat aside from meat? I will ask them. These are just the standard questions that are asked of vegetarians and vegans. They can come from people that are truly interested or from people that are baiting. Be truthful with each type about what your personal reasons are no matter what they are. linda " cherylplummer " <cherylplummer > When people find out I am a vegetarian, I always get the 2 basic > questions > Why did you quit eating meat and what do you eat if you dont eat meat > > The first one I reply that eating animals just started making me sick > and then someone once said to me " Well thats what God put them here > for " > Is there any good answer to this reply without getting in a heated > argument > Then the reply to the second question is endless. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, Isn't that such a pain in the butt?? We all have our own answers to these questions, most likely, since most of us have come upon ignorant and rude people. I've always found it interesting to remember that historically most Christians in the South before the Civil War had the same argument for justifying the enslavement of Africans: " That's what God put them here for. " This is just another example of bending one's religious dogma to fit one's prejudices and desires. Guest guest
--Hello Thats a really good reply to both questions. I dont know why people cant figure out that you can exist without eating meat and much more healthier than they do cheryl - In , " linda " <lindai81 wrote: > > I hate bailing in here on this so why do I do it anyway? Guest guest
-Hello Yes it is very aggravating when people keep asking you these questions I told one person to come to Golden corral with me because I generally find lots to eat there at their buffet. Then they could see that I had a variety of foods to eat cheryl -- In , Sherry Rose <sherry wrote: > > Hi Cheryl, > > Isn't that such a pain in the butt?? As for the second question, just start listing things (just skip the salads, because that's what they assume you haveto eat anyway).

Like : " Why do you ask? " . This is quite pertinent since it is really nobody's biz why you choose to not eat meat anymore. And the answer to their other question is simple: You eat everything but meat, and there are so many other delicious things to eat. ~ pt ~ I like living.Ê I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing. ~ Agatha Christie
Guest guest
--Hello Yeah I agree there are so many wonderful foods out there without limiting ourself to eating meat I guess when you live in a small town anything outside the norm makes them wonder cheryl - In , " ~ PT ~ " <patchouli_troll wrote: > > cheryl wrote: " When people find out I am a vegetarian, > I always get the 2 basic questions Why did you quit eating > meat and what do you eat if you dont eat meat " > > > ~ Those pesky meat eaters! *lol* One has to counter their > nosey questions with another question, me thinks. Guest guest
Oooh, I like your idea of posing the question back to them (in a nice yet firm manner). I think it will be a good way to gauge if they are sincerely interested in your reasons/feelings or if they are just waiting to pounce. Guest guest
Exactly! And i learned to do this the hard way, as i tend to learn most things. *lol* i have fallen into their " traps " more times than i can count and wasted too much time giving thoughtful answers to people who only wanted to be cheeky or press their own meat-eating agenda [self-justifying their reasons for eating meat because my not eating it threatened them, or something like that]. Now i ask why they are interesting in what isn't on my plate first. My usual answer after they give me their reason for asking is simple and true: " i just never liked the taste of the stuff " ; not much for them to argue with there. Life is too short and should be enjoyed, so why should i waste mine trying to eat foods i never really cared for, that i was served as a child, when there are so many other wonderful foods to eat? ~ pt ~ The happiness of life is made up of one minute fractions -- the little soon forgotten charities of a kiss or smile, a kind look, a hearfelt compliment, and the countless infinitesimals of pleasurable and genial feeling. - Samuel Taylor Coleridge ~~~*~~~*~~~> , subprong <subprong wrote: > > Oooh, I like your idea of posing the question back to them (in a nice yet > firm manner).
