Guest guest
For the ladies and those who love them: I rarely watch tv in the afternoon, because I know that it usually means I'll be sitting there sucked in too long... but yesterday was her show on the single largest killer of women (more than the next six reasons combined, and and average of 1 out of 2) - heart disease. If you can watch it somehow, or at least read about the episode on her webs site... it was extremely enlightening. Dr. Mehmet Oz was on (one of the guys who wrote " You: the owner's manual " , which I highly recommend by the way) was there, and they showed (yes, with preserved organs) the various stages of cardiovascular disease, and talked about a new noninvasive test, a 64 slice (I think) scan that can see exactly what's going onin your heart at the moment... I think the biggest thing that struck me, aside from the usual warnings to " eat healthy " ... Dr. Oz mentioned several times, how when we see the narrowing in the cardiac arteries... that also means you have narrowing everywhere else - kidneys, brain, etc... While I'm not dumb and certainly know that the heart isn't an isolated system - I just never really thought about the rest of the body!! In relation to this (which Oprah did not mention, shame on her) is an attempt to raise awareness much the same way the pink ribbons do for breast cancer. It's called the Red Dress Project; please check it out. http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/hearttruth/whatis/reddress.htm Ok, if you read this far - please don't think I'm preachin' at you! Just wanted everyone to have the info!
