Guest guest
I switched when I was twelve. Before, I was a bit overweight and had some pretty ugly acne. A month after switching I was at a great weight, had more energy, and my skin was absolutely acne-free. I still have that near-perfect skin. And I know it's not just that I outgrew it- both my parents had acne till they were mid-twenties and my sister, 21, still has it. Funny timing, too. Hmmmm. I am terrified of dying, and being a vegetarian is great because A- I have less chance of getting anything that'll kill me, and B- I don't have to kill anyone else who might also be afraid of dying. Good all around. Plus it freaks people out. Can be amusing at times, especially with teenagers in drive-thru windows. " A WHAT burger?? " Kadee Sedtal How low will we go? Guest guest
Well besides deodorant has anyone noticed any health benefits of being a vegetarian? ) Rachel ~ Well, I'm 63 and one of the healthiest people I know. So many my age are plagued with a variety of health related issues. I see my doctor once a year for an annual check-up. That's it. I can't remember the last time I was sick and haven't taken an antibiotic in the 18 years I've been veggie....scout's honor. Now, this may well be luck and/or good genes but both my mom and dad had Type II Diabetes. So far I've escaped this. I always feel good. I'd like to think that my diet plays a big part in my health. Statistics do show that vegetarians have a much lower incidence of disease. TM ______________________ Check out the new AOL. Guest guest
I have only been a vegetarian for 3 1/2 wks. But, I noticed a difference immediately. I have so much more energy and I almost always get terribly sick from late August thru November. I did come down with a cold, but bounced right back, it's not lingering like it usually does. My husband, who btw, hates vegetables has slowly moved over to my way of thinking. So has my daughter who hates vegetables equally as much. I'm not sure if this is a phase for them, but I'm hoping that they at least include more vegetables in their diet. My husband called today to thank me for helping him feel better and said he hasn't felt this good in years. Guest guest
I haven't tried to go without to know whether I need it or not. I have changed to a natural/organic deodorant. No antiperspirant. Maybe I should try to go without and see if anyone notices (including me). Debbie
Guest guest
Donna, I have noticed the same thing about body odor. Amazing !..I hardly ever wear deodorant(Tom's Natural) unless I am going out and about among people for a long period of time. More often than not I wipe my underarms with a wet wipe that contains aloe. Since I gave up meat years ago I seldom if ever notice any underarm odor even if I eat onions or garlic. I think it is very important to be aware of our body fluids etc. I know I have said this before but for the new members I am 65 yrs. old and have never had the flu in my life. I am on no medication. Not too long ago a clerk looked at my driver's licence and said " this can't be right it says you were born in 1941 " . I had a hard time convincing her that it was me..LOL Not only do I have great physical health but I believe my mental abilities improved when I stopped eating meat. We really are what we eat. I am so blessed. Sending smiles and hugs Deanna , Donnalilacflower <thelilacflower wrote: > > Has given me more energy and that I don't need. Guest guest
Years ago, I essentially ate vegetarian in order to lower my cholesterol. It went from 230 to 179 with that diet and exercise and NO medication was needed. I then slipped back into old habits but have gone back to eating vegetarian and from the way I feel I can tell my cholesterol is better (haven't had it checked though). I don't have high blood pressure or diabetes or any other health problems so I don't know how diet would affect anything else. Guest guest
I have been following this thread with interest. I have noticed a couple of things since changing the way that I eat. I don't feel like I need wheelbarrow anymore after eating a meal. I hve also noticed that my cycle is getting regular. I am no longer cramping like I did before and I also don't go through 2 weeks of h*ll around that time of the month anymore. It is my opinion that this is a result of my body only having to deal with my natural hormones and not ones that come from hrt(which was used because the doctor said I was perimenopausal) or from other sources. The only thing downside that I currently am experiencing is that my body tends to shut down almost completely the day before I start. I can't seem to think straight and I don't have any energy at all. Once I start though I am fine. I hope that wasn't too much information. Guest guest
I didn't notice a huge health difference going from SAD to ovo-lacto veggie (though it was a long time ago and I wasn't really paying attention, bing in elementary school), but I went vegan about 2 months ago and I've noticed a big difference. I have a lot more energy, my skin is a lot better (I've had adult acne for years...didn't really have it in high school, go figure) and I've been sleeping better. I think a lot of it is because I have a dairy sensitivity, but still, its a very dramatic defference. ~Rachael Talk is cheap. Use Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls. Great rates starting at 1¢/min.
