Guest guest
They have been doing this for a very long time...I remember, I think it was on 60 Minutes doing an expose on this trick of the trade years ago. Oxygen getting to the meat is what makes it turn brown since oxygen encourages growth of bacteria. To me at this point what is so incredibly dangerous is that the meat is not always kept at an appropriate temperature in those cases allowing bacteria and such to grow ending up really contaminated before the cook cooks it. So, the cosmetic solution is simply to keep you from knowing that the meat is old and the chances are that it is even more hazardous if you don't cook it right away at temperature for a longer period of time to kill the overgrowth of disgusting contamination. Just think of those eating medium rare hamburgers...hamburgers are usually made from dairy cows by the way. Even though the law prohibits the slaughter of downer cows for hamburger they do anyway. I think that one of the strongest health reasons to not eat cow is the fact that Mad Cow disease is and has been here in the states for some time according to leading scientists involved with researching the disease. It is simply that it takes many years for a cow to display outward symptoms of the disease and we kill the cow way before that time. Except dairy cows sometimes live long enough to see the symptoms, but not that often. That is why you have seen the cows that have the disease diagnosed it has usually been the dairy cow. So aside from the basic fact that eating animals involves pain and brutality, it is also kind of playing Russian Roulette with your life. linda " alexislake " <alexislake > I have been reading about the posts about them making crock pots > differently than in the past because of contamination. Guest guest
it's scary to think what is being done to our foods to make them last longer on the shelves. i noticed the morning star farms has several new products out. i tried their spinach artichoke veggie bites (http://tinyurl.com/qm78y) yesterday and while they weren't bad, i don't see myelf consuming them on a regular basis. i thought they were kinda bland. i noticed that msf had a new mushroom lover's burger (http://tinyurl.com/n2mhw)that i would like to try. susie --- alexislake <alexislake wrote: > I have been reading about the posts about them > making crock pots > differently than in the past because of > contamination. Guest guest
Ew, carbon monoxide? Really? That is so gross, and i believe it. Seems they will do anything to make food look fresh for longer so people will be fooled into buying it. i am glad i don't eat meat. i haven't seen the MSF Cheddar burgers yet, what are they like? Do they have cheese mixed into the veg burger? i have tried the basil-pizza flavor and they are very good. i like to chop them up to put in my strombolis. You are right, it is wonderful that more grocery stores are carrying vegetarian food choices and making them more mainstream. So many people are suffering from high cholesterol and other serious health issues and they will benefit from making healthy choices. ~ pt ~ We are all responsible for assuring that children are raised in a nation that doesn't just talk about family values, but acts in ways that value families. ~ Hillary Rodham Clinton ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , " alexislake " <alexislake wrote: > > I have been reading about the posts about them making crock pots > differently than in the past because of contamination. Guest guest
I think there are some terrific vegetarian and vegan foods being put out by the food makers, however, I now read the labels. I don't want to eat genetically modified foods you have to read the label. Nearly all soy in this country and corn for that matter comes from genetically modified foods unless it is categorically stated that they are non-GMO. Most prepared foods are loaded with sodium and other preservatives. I don't want to eat a bunch of stuff I can't even pronounce. Meat analogs are great, but I find myself moving away from them. I think it was on this group that gave me recipes to make my own burgers and loaves and that has helped significantly in keeping what I don't want to eat out of my diet and making my diet (read as nutrition) much better. I tried Gardenburger's vegan patty...ugh...anyone want me to mail them to you? I think one of the hurdles I had to overcome was the idea that I had to learn to cook in such a manner that it mimicked meat. You know, develop different taste buds. linda " ~ PT ~ " <patchouli_troll > Ew, carbon monoxide? Really? That is so gross, and i believe > it.
