Drink lots of water and fruit juice when the urge hits. I've heard it really

helps... It is good to let those know, who have never smoked, how hard it is to

quit, so that hopefully it will keep someone from never even trying it. We can

turn anything into something that can help us be more sensitive to the struggles

and hurts of others. I'm so glad you quit again Donna. My fil, didn't quit

until he had a 2nd Heart Attack and then even 8 years later, started up again

and would sneak around and smoke occasionally...

Blessings wished for your success always in this craving, that it will subside.

Chanda and cigarettes

I can say cigarettes took the most will power. It's extremely hard to kick.

Do you know I quitt for 10 years and fell off the wagon for 3 years and now

it's

8 years cigarette free. I had bronchitis all the time and I knew I had to quit

but I loved to smoke.

I still miss it at times. I don't know if that craving will ever completely go

away.

PS quit smoking what seems like millenniums ago, but one thing still makes me

crave it, not alcohol, but coffee, gonna have to give that up, so I figured on

the barley but will try this as well.

Re: Re: Soda Pop -- Poison by the Can - Roma

Alternative for Coffee

Roma is an instant roasted grain hot beverage that is very close to coffee in

taste. Even better in my opinion. You can find it health food stores. You just

add hot water to it. I bet it tastes similiar to what you are talking about.

you know, if you grind barley in a grinder, then dry fry it in a pan to make

it dark brown, then use cheescloth or something comparable in a cup of boiling

water with a few tablespoons, dang it tastes like coffee! and it is also great

for a funky stomach, like from a virus or hangover, not that I know about the

latter, just hear it that's all.

Donna, this is so true. I quit about 15 years ago - and there's seldom a

day that I don't think, " Gee, a cigarette would be so good right now.... "

I miss it the very most after meals. Instead of having a cigarette, now I

have a second helping. Bad for the figure. Good for the lungs, I guess! LOL

I still reach for one sometimes during my morning coffee. Or when I am

reading. And then I realize.....OMG....I don't do that anymore. I think

there are things/times that spike that craving.

It is hard to stay off but I've found I hardly think of them

anymore. It's been about 8 years and just every once in a while,

twice a year, maybe 3 times, I think having one would be nice.

Watching Apocalypse Now always makes me want cigarettes & gin lol.

Peace,

I wasn't on this group, but I quit not too long ago. And I had lots of

encouragement from the gals on a South Beach Diet group.

Eleven months, four days, 9 hours, 9 minutes and 10 seconds. 13535

cigarettes not smoked, saving $2,368.67. Life saved: 6 weeks, 4 days, 23

hours, 55 minutes.

Hi,

I was a heavy smoker ( 3-packs a day for more years than I want to

remember) and I haven't smoked for the last 25 years. But if someone

offered me $1,000 to light a cigarette for them, I wouldn't do it.

One puff, and I would be back to smoking 3-packs a day. Many heroin

addicts have told me that it's harder to quit cigarettes than heroin.

Congratulations. That is so neat how you have it all calculated out. It must

be a great motivator to see it that way.

I managed to stop smoking by breathing. Every time I had a craving

for a cigarette I would breathe in for a count of 7, hold for 1 and

breathe out for 7, hold for 1 and then breath in again, etc. I found

that if I did that about 10 times or so the craving would pass. I

figure that the thing I really liked about smoking was that it

seemed to make me feel calmer, but my suspicion is that it was

actually the deep inhalation that made me feel calm and so the

breathing exercise worked well for me as a substitute.

-Christie,

I did exactly the same as you when I quit smoking. I noticed that I

couldn't seem to get enough air so I started filling my lungs until

and then take another short breath until my lungs seemed to burst. It

was almost a " high " sensation. I noticed right away how different

even my skin looked with all that oxygen..
