Guest guest
No Magic! But with reason & logic, to reach ppl who love pets...it seems that are so close to understanding...seems with a little effort and openmindedness they could see that love for all animals is same as it is for a choice few animals....I just don't get that they only love certain kinds of animals--so much so that they are willing to follow them around and pick up their pet's poop! ewww That's dedication!Just would like to see them spread it around! }{a }{a , " ~ PT ~ " <patchouli_troll wrote: > > Time for a new question of the week [QOTW]. > > This one is for March 5th- 11th: > > If you could magically make someone a vegetarian, > who would it be and why? >
Guest guest
I think that I would pick someone close to home and it would be my youngest step daughter. She is in her mid-thirties, an RN, and a mommy to my beautiful 1 year old grandson. I know that if she made the choice to become vegetarian and eat more whole foods, that would mean that the baby would get the same and I know in my heart that that would be the best thing in the world for him, but I think that I will just keep my mouth shut and lead by example. Maybe someday..... Stef ---
Guest guest
No problem, Angela. Personal choice is a very good point. Guest guest
Easy!! My kids! I've been feeding them veggie for 7 months and they never stop asking for meat. Guest guest
> If you could magically make someone a vegetarian, > who would it be and why? i wish i could wave a magic wand and just make my son love veggies. i don't care if he ever becomes a vegetarian, though it would be nice. i just wish he would eat some vegetables other than corn & potatoes! Good thing he likes to eat fruit or he would probably get scurvy! *lol* i have enjoyed reading everyones responses to this question. i especially got a kick out of the Ted Nugent ones! Wouldn't it be funny as hell if we could make him go instantly vegetarian during the filming of one of his reality shows " Surviving Ted " ? ~ pt ~ Some things have eternal value, and compassion is one of them. ~ Arthur C. Guest guest
I did know that Ted Nugent had a show. Do you know what station & day? I can't stand the guy. He was at out county fair last year and the only good thing to come out of it is that he made some enemies over the amount of $$ he was charging for an autograph. I think it was $20 if I remember correctly. Sam i have enjoyed reading everyones responses to this question. i especially got a kick out of the Ted Nugent ones! Guest guest
Hi Sam. Yes, it was on VH1. Here is a website that tells about it: http://www.vh1.com/shows/dyn/surviving_nugent/series.jhtml i only caught the show once or twice while channel surfing. i happened upon the episode where he and his wife were giving this vegan contestant a rough time. http://veganporn.com/1052271049.html ~ pt ~ Lest he should lose command over the tales he loved, he used to repeat them aloud when he thought no one was near, using the gesticulations and the emphasis... as if he were once again the centre of a fireside story-telling. ~ Alwyn and Brinley Rees, 'Celtic Heritage' ~~~*~~~*~~~~> , " Samantha Lea " <saml wrote: > > I did know that Ted Nugent had a show. Guest guest
I guess it's too late to choose Dr. Atkins. I have a family member who gets very (my interpretation) insecure around me and the diet. I don't have to say anything and random topics will be brought up about it. I'd have to point the magic carrot wand in that direction. S. Guest guest
Yes, those Atkins dieters really don't seem to get us vegetarians, do they? But isn't it possible to eat low-carb vegetarian? i always wondered if it was.... Not my cuppa tea though. i love my carbs: pasta, bread, potatoes, rice etc. i think the best thing to do is to cut back on the white carbs and go more the whole grain route. ~ pt ~ The Ceridwen began to boil the cauldron... for a year and a day until three blessed drops of Inspiration had been obtained from the brew. ~ Hanes Taliesin, Welsh text (trans. Guest guest
I think it is as you stated in the coffee thread - all things in moderation. I've been incorporating many more whole grain " breads " into my diet. Some whole wheat pastas as well. Funny how our taste buds change over time. I grew up despising wheat breads. Speaking of there was a 60 Minutes (or one of those) program on ingredients listings. One of the segments was on how to tell if something was healthy for you as far as wheat is concerned. Big difference between Whole Wheat and wheat in an item. Also is should be listed as the first ingredient. Speaking of taters, I tried a weird potato recently (i have no idea why). They are called butter potatoes. They were suppose to taste like butter (stated that and everything). They smelled like butter and the inside of the tater looked like butter, however I did not sense the flavor of butter (and quite frankly I don't want to know how or why they made it like this). One thing I did notice is that many of the potatoes in the sack were bad or had bad parts on them. It could have been a bad sack but I fear with all of the weirdness they just may rot faster. Read awhile back that they were trying to produces garlic flavored potatoes too. S. Guest guest
gosh, sounds like genetic engineering to me...GMO foods....how quaint. Just make sure there aren't some fish genes in it. If you buy organic potatoes or anything else for that matter, you won't risk having GMO'd foods. So many foods now are coming into the market where the pesticides, insecticides, herbicides are being inserted into the food prior to growing it...Monsanto and other agri businesses...the bringers of agent orange....state that is reduces the need to spray these substances and that the foods are safe. I call that bull cocky. And it isn't working. They are having to use MORE spray to control these things. GMO foods are found not to have the same nutritional value as organic. But of course, the GMO crops spread relentlessly and out of control and cannot be contained (wind, insect pollination). Same thing happened with the genetic manipulation of the salmon where it was promised that these larger salmon would be contained safely and unable to have an effect on wild salmon. There is proof that so many have escaped their containment areas that they are changing all wild salmon. The genetically modified salmon are larger and thus more attractive to the females. But the males pass on their genetic materials to the babies. We are in big trouble. linda " subprong " <subprong > > Speaking of taters, I tried a weird potato recently (i have no idea why). > They are called butter potatoes. Guest guest
It would be my children - but especially my eldest son(23). He's become frighteningly overweight in only a few short years, and he's vehement about remaining on his SAD. Burgers, french fries, mac & cheese, pizza, fettucini alfredo - all " normal " fare for him:( He RARELY ever eats anything that isn't protein, fat and/or starch. I lost a lot of weight about 18 months ago & my gut is more efficient so fewer calories are processed like the big meals I used to eat. It's hard... Marilyn _______________ Don’t just search. Find.
