Describe any changes... Nope. For me it is still all about animal rights, the horrible conditions animals are raised in many " factory farms " and the way they are murdered. Also, as far as I understand it is a better use of land to raise crops for people and to not raise animals for eating. Gary
Guest guest
This is quite a difficult question but I think generally it started out as as more of a question of taste and increasingly the balance has changed and it has become more about animal welfare and ecological issues. My desire not to eat meat or fish goes back as far as I can remember. I have always hated the taste and texture and idea of eating meat. My mum bought cheap cuts of meat with tubes in which I thought were disgusting. So I avoided eating meat as much as possible. Then when I was 6 we went on a school trip to a farm and once I realised where meat came from I liked the idea of eating it even less. I haven't gone out of my way to eat eggs since I was at college in the late sixties where the vegetarian option was always fried eggs so I became sickened by them but increasingly I find it hard to justify eating disguised eggs (in cakes and suchlike) or dairy produce and I'm also losing the taste for them. As years have gone by I find that I scan food packaging more carefully looking for hidden animal ingredients - I don't want animals to be hurt just so that I can eat. I think that becoming vegan will be the next natural progression. I rarely eat cheese now and I have reached the stage where if I could find something vegan to eat that I like as much as Greek yoghurt I would happily become vegan. Guest guest
My reasons for becoming a vegan haven't changed one bit...the brutality of animals hasn't stopped. The only change is that my awareness spread out from there to include environmental and global issues to a deeper depth than before. Got to be careful or I might be called a fanatic. LOL So, now I am also organic along with a whole lot of other things. Yes, my whole outlook has changed actually since going vegan. linda " ~ PT ~ " <patchouli_troll > Here is the group question for Feb. 26th - Mar. 4th: > > Have your reasons for going vegetarian/vegan changed > since you first altered your lifestyle/diet? > Describe any changes... Originally i went semi-vegetarian [while still living at home with the folks] because i hated the texture and taste of meat. i agreed to still eat fish and poultry because i could tolerate it, and it made my mother's meal planning easier. Once i moved out on my own and learned more about vegetarianism my thoughts on that definitely changed! Now 20 years later i still think of myself as more of a vegetarian for taste reasons, but ethics and environmental concerns do play a greater roll in my choosing this diet than they originally did. ~ pt ~ True friendship is never serene. ~ Marie de Svign
Guest guest
Originally I went pescatarian no dairy, then ovo-vegetarian, then vegan due to food intolerances surrounding animal protein. The longer I've been no longer eating certain foods, however, the less they resemble food to me. I still occasionally look at a burger and remember that I once thought it tasted good, but the idea of eating animal products is becoming more and more revolting to me. Realizing how much healthier it is, how much better for the animals, and knowing that I'm no longer putting crap in my body that may not be 100% healthy or good for me has contributed to this. And at this point, I no longer comprehend why we put animal milk in *dessert*. Guest guest
Yes, some what. My husband and I began because of our faith/religion/philosophy. That included health and value for the treatment of animals. Now we are even more aware of animal treatment and slant that way more than the health issue.
