Guest guest
Ok here we go. Another of my favorite old recipes. More hippie food as we go along. This is good cooked in the crockpot or on the stove. I had to name it the first time I saw the outcome. It's a warm the bones hearty soup.....Donna Yellow Submarine Soup 2 onions, coarsely chopped 4 garlic cloves, crushed 2 cups yellow split peas 1/2 tsp. thyme (dried) 1 tsp. oregano (dried) 1 tsp. salt (use salt to taste when soup is done) 1/4 tsp. cumin 1 tsp. pepper 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes 6 1/2 cups vegetable broth If making on the stove then saute the onion and garlic for a few minutes in a tablepoon ofolive oil until tender firm. Add other ingredients and bring to a boil, reduce heat to a low simmer and cover pan. Cook for 50 minutes, soup will be a nice rich thick soup. Salt to taste. If using the crockpot I place everything in the crockpot and let cook for hours on high and turn temp. to low for the last 1 or 2 hrs. Guest guest
This does look good! Just tonight I made a curried split pea soup in the pressure cooker. (I can post the recipe if there is interest. I was using some of my new Penzey's spices. :-) ) I love split pea soup so I will try this one! Sharon Donnalilacflower wrote: > Ok here we go. Guest guest
Hey Christine, welcome! my first piece of advise to you, screw what anybody said, no matter how much you love them. You know what you are doing is right, all the way around. There is no vegetarian out there I don't think who has not experienced blatant negativity, just don't hear it, that's all. Do like I do and get a few jollies from their attitude, LOL. My husband used to be bad, now I have him very accepting of vegetarianism, and he no longer complains about it, LOL. My sons are 22 and 18, they are not vegetarians, but they are better now too. My daughter is 9, she has decided a few times to go veggie, but after a few hours and the smell of the BBQ grill she would change her mind. Whatever she chooses eventually she will, and I kind of think it will be vegetarianism, in the meantime, I still buy her junk here and there, but I have drastically changed her diet and she doesn't mind too much. I got rid of that horrible white mush bread, and replaced it with white bread that is still white, but at least it is not bleached, and has some whole grain content. Now she likes it better. I no loner make allthat processed easy packaged stuff, and I read labels like mad, LOL. I now make whole grain spaghetti, whole foods mac and cheese is about the only processed thing I make, and it is pretty good as compared to kraft as far as ingredients I cannot pronounce. She told me this morning, funny cause I was angry with her too, but not after this, she said, " momma, I want to tell you that I love it when I am eating something and you are happy I am eating it and you tell me it is good for me too, I like that look you give me " well I just mooshed her to bits of course. I even have a nine year old eating collard greens!!! LOL. It is all in the spices you know. Would m$%t cooking on the grill smell good if it weren't for the spices on it? No way. It's all in the spices. spices can make anything good, except okra. hopefully Donna fell asleep reading this long email and didn't see that comment. hugs, Chanda - Christine Marcinek Sunday, August 27, 2006 7:14 AM Re: repost of a good yellow split pea soup Yellow Submarine Soup I love split pea soup...mmmm with a nice chunk of whole wheat bread...mmmm I am new here my name is Christine from Ny 33 yr old mom of 3 great little girls...my 7 yr old is transitioning to vegetarian as well..any help, support, tips or recipes we could get would be great...hubby and my other 2 are still meat eaters...hubby thinks this is a phase...I tried to transition once b4 but it was a bit tough with no support...so far so good..havent eaten meat to 2 days and actually I like it..I feel so much better and more energetic!
