Guest guest
I agree, Amy. There can and will always be something with everything. I'm not sure there is a perfect solution, however as I've stated in the past, we all do what we can....or what we choose to do. I think any effort is a positive thing. There probably isn't such a thing as a perfectly practicing vegan. I'd be willing to bet there are animal products in things we aren't even aware of. Unfortunately there aren't ingredients listings on houses, cars, streets, computers, etc.. That being said, I understand the frustrations with specific lables. I, personally, don't really have a problem but I can understand where you are coming from Mel as I've seen many with the same frustrations. Which, by the way, this is a perfectly ON-topic conversation for the forum. I, too, hope you are feeling better today or as soonest as possible. Take care, Mel. Guest guest
Keep up your vegetarian efforts, pen! You are in that beginning stage (or so it sounds) where you have to describe, teach and sometimes convince your new diet path. By now you probably feel like a broken record trying to repeat it all of the time. LOL. I guess if you wanted a more proper term, you could use " flexitarian " (this small bit from about.com)... ---- *Question:* What is a Flexitarian? *Answer: *Part-time Vegetarian * A Flexitarian (part-time vegetarian) is someone who eats a primarily healthy diet that consists of limited amounts of meat and more vegetables. **---- *Keep up the efforts, pen, and let us know if you need any tips or help in the process to achieve your goal. Guest guest
I'm a flexitarian, I'm a flexitarian.... I LOVE THAT! Makes me feel like I completed one goal and have started another goal of becoming a vegetarian..... Yes! Positive thinking.... Always good for the soul. Thanks for sharing a new term. --- subprong <subprong wrote: > I guess if you wanted a more proper term, you could > use " flexitarian " > > *Question:* What is a Flexitarian? > *Answer: *Part-time Vegetarian > > * A Flexitarian (part-time vegetarian) is someone > who eats a primarily > healthy diet that consists of limited amounts of > meat and more vegetables. > http://bibliophil.org/ name pen912
Guest guest
I didn't mean to sound as mean as I did. The conversation went like this: Her: Oh I am a vegetarian too! Me: I'm actually vegan which means I don't eat dairy or eggs either Her: Yeah (pulls out the Starburst) Me: Uhm...you know, you may not have looked but those have gelatin in them... Her: Huh? Me: Gelatin...it's made from boiling animal tissue Her: Oh...i didn't know that! we continue talking and she is talking about some sandwich she is going to get and it's a chicken sandwich... Her: Chickens and fish aren't animals Me: Okay....so what are they? Her: Well since Chickens don't have babies and Fish are cold blooded they aren't animals... Me: so then what do you classify them as? Her: ...Chicken and Fish I only remember those parts of the convo and not what all led up to it. I wasn't really as angry as I thought I was...I was just upset and grumpy anyhow...to me it's just frustrating at the lack of education in this world. I will never understand why people think a fish is not an animal... if you eat fish...FINE! but please don't make life hard for those of us that do not. Prime example. When I was still ovo-lacto veggie I told someone " I don't eat any meat or meat by-products " " Oh so you are a vegetarian " " Yes " They proceeded to offer me a tuna salad sandwich... " Oh but my cousin is a vegetarian and she can eat tuna " Its even more fun when they just don't mention " Hey that's made with beef stock " because they live with the impression that as long as chunks of meat aren't floating in it, it's ok. Especially since it makes my stomach hurt. I was laughing at my friend today...she is more literal than me. To her, Eggs are not accepable and she went off on some girl who tried to feed her made with eggs AFTER she said " I don't eat eggs " Blissfully happy people who do not know what is going in thier bodies...sometimes I wish I could live life that simple and oblivious. It sure would make it easier --- subprong <subprong wrote: > I agree, Amy. There can and will always be > something with everything.
