Once a week we have RTF (raid the fridge) where we reheat the week's leftovers, and perhaps once a month or so DH will get the urge to cook. Thankfully for me, he is a one-pot wonder, as the non-cook does most of the dishes (cook cleans as s/he goes, but whatever's left when dinner is ready, and then the dinner dishes themselves, go to the non-cook for cleaning). Guest guest
my husband prefers to cook, and if much better at it, so he cooks as often as he can. He did all of the cooking until last year when he accepted a job with longer hours. I now do most of the cooking, he fills in when he feels the need, and he cooks most weekends. He has been cooking 3 or 4 meals on weekends and freezing the extra. I make a menu plan every wednesday (I use the vegetarian menu mailer at savingdinner.com). I leave two days free, one for him and one for leftovers. He then adds a meal he wants, we negotiate about the other meals and we go shopping thursday I've tried a lot of angles at meal planning, now I just plan quick meals and a crcok-pot meal for Tuesday, the day I take the kids to dance & acting class. I make 3 hot breakfasts a week, 5 hot lunches (usually sandwiches on the weekends) and 5 dinners. My kids are homeschooled so we often have " buffet o'leftovers " for lunch or dinner when daddy's working late or traveling. I end up doing all the dishes regardless, but he's started freezing his meals in disposable stuff (which I wash out, LOL) and I try to just cook 1 thing and serve everything else raw. He's a dear though, we didnt have a dishwasher and the portable kinds were out of our price range. He bartered one from a neighbor in exchange for yard work though Now I spend 1 hour a day doing dishes and not 2 Meg Meg
Guest guest
I am the main cook in my household. But I leave all the grilling up to the hubby. He is great with the grill. And since I've been vegging it he even cooks up my Boca burgers, Tofurkey sausage, and Veggie dogs. He says that when I want stuff like portobella mushrooms, zucchini, etc grilled I will just have to show him how I like it so he will be able to do it for me next time. Isn't he sweet??? Rain is forcasted for the next few days, but sunday is suposed to be a bit sunny! Woohoo......I think I'll run circles in the yard to celebrate the sun I have a general question for the group (is this ok to ask?): Who is the main cook in the household? I'm always amazed at how different households organize meal times. I was raised having to cook dinner once a week when I turned 10, and I loved it. But my husband never had to cook until he moved out on his own. Now days I do most of the cooking as I really enjoy it, I love playing with all the different spice/flavour combinations. Anyways, I'm just curious if people have a system or just play it by ear. thanks! -Heidi
