Guest guest
Hi all. I read an article last night, I forget where, about the term " flavoring " . We don't even know what we're eating if we buy things that say " natural flavoring, " or even " artificial flavoring. " I wonder how we might be able to go about getting the FDA to make food companies label things as vegetarian or vegan? It could be something as small as a little marking next to the ingredients or something, where it wouldn't affect the " attractiveness " of the product, but for those of us who actually care what we put in our bodies, we could simply see the label and either buy or not instead of standing there in a crowded isle reading ingredient lists, wondering what they actually mean. Anybody have any ideas how we could go about getting this started? I'm afraid to buy things! This is ridiculous, I'm just so angry right now at this whole situation. We vegetarians, who have researched our diets and have made the informed decision, are the ones wasting our time and making sacrifices, when it should be those who don't care about themselves or the environment doing all the hard work. It really should be easier to be us! Sorry for the rant, I'm just really serious about getting something done where we all can spend our grocery-shopping trips shopping instead of reading labels. Guest guest
Kadee, I never ever buy any food product unless it states certified organic, Vegetarian or Vegan. If it states " flavoring, etc. it doesn't go home with me. " All natural ingredients " does not work for me either unless those ingredients are named. Many non-organic food items are marked " Vegetarian " examples are Kroeger brand canned beans and fruits. , etc. Deanna , Kadee M <abbey_road3012 wrote: > > Hi all. Guest guest
I don't always get around to it but I try to send the companies who label well notes or email saying that I appreciate their labels and that that is one of the reasons I choose their product over others. Corporations are like puppies - you have to train them and reward good behavior. Feedback about poor labelling might help too, I guess. I doubt most of them really care *what* they sell you, they just want to sell you something. lol Peace, Diane , " genny_y2k " <genny_y2k wrote: > > Kadee, > I never ever buy any food product unless it states certified organic, > Vegetarian or Vegan. Guest guest
Well there are some vegetarian/vegan products that aren't marked, that you have to contact the company to find out about- they need to be required to mark *everything*!! We deserve to not waste our time or have to do without something just because we don't know. I'm reeeeeeeally getting upset with these companies that try to hide things in the label. A vegetarian who doesn't know about that could easily buy and eat something with meat in it even if it's not on the label- I only found out about this a couple of years ago. Guest guest
-Diane, I do the same. If I find a product and packaging that I appreciate I contact the company by email..I have received some great coupons for doing so. I also will contact a company if I think they use excessive unnecessary packaging for their product and I have also had positive input in return. One example is Bigelow Tea. Their packaging is horrible. Foil wrapped and staples. They contacted me to say that they are improving their packaging in the months to come. I do the same with offensive advertizements on TV. I also contact the managers of our local markets to thank them for stocking organic products at a competitvie price. Now if I can just get someone to stock smokey paprika..LOL Smiles and hugs Deanna -- In , " strayfeather1 " <otherbox2001 wrote: > > I don't always get around to it but I try to send the companies who > label well notes or email saying that I appreciate their labels and > that that is one of the reasons I choose their product over others. > > > >
