Isn't that funny, I think it's mild like a faint onion

flavor, do you think it smells bad? I like the scent.

Donna,

 

I'm not the one to ask. I like Indian food. I don't think it smells

bad. I think 3 spices in particular are pretty unique tasting and

smelling that no other cuisine has. They are turmeric, asafoetida and

fenugreek. Some people have said they smell like dirty socks. I

don't think those people like Indian food.

 

By the way, I was in Fred Meyers. They now stock " black salt " in all

their stores in the gourmet ethnic section. It is a salt full of

minerals - kind of grayish-pink in color. It is used in Indian

cooking. It is salty and has a sulphur taste. I am surprised because

it is not used that much. Freddys is mostly in the western US.

Well, I love Indian food and I think asafeotida smells NASTY. I mean, it

can make me nauseous. But it is used in some delightful foods so, I

guess that whomever said it mellows in cooking was 100% right. :-)
