Guest guest
Dear Christie, My sister living in Zurich, says the same thing as you. People sharing the allotment with me says that if a single Courgette is allowed to mature, it becomes a Marrow. I am confused because they look and taste the same I am " guessing " that Marrow Squash has orange coloured flesh. Courgettes that are allowed to mature retains their white flesh. Are we saying that there are Marrows with white flesh as well as Orange flesh? Another name I come across for " Egg-Plant " & " Aubergine " is " Brinjal " . The beat goes on, ha, lol Best Wishes, Wee On Behalf Of christie_0131 Thursday, August 24, 2006 1:26 AM Re:Marrows Thank You Wee & Donna A vegetable marrow is related to the courgette or zucchini but is much much bigger. The one I bought at the weekend is 12 inches long by 5 inches in diameter and is quite a small example. I think it would be called marrow squash over there. It's funny how offputting a name can be. I found myself automatically deleting recipes with eggplant in them because it sounds so rank, whereas aubergine sounds much more appetising to me, LOL. Guest guest
Dear Christie, You know what? Ha Ha. That picture sure looks exactly like a Marrow I will do an experiment in my allotment at the end of the growing season. I need some seeds for next year anyway. So, I will let one of my Courgette go to seed deliberately. Then, I will see if it compares with the link you sent. An update will follow for sure. I always thought that if you left a courgette to grow, it just became a very big courgette, LOL, but I probably need to bow to the knowledge and expertise of your allotment buddies - I am no gardener! Brinjal is a useful name to remember when you go to an Indian restaurant! Christie
