Guest guest
I think the Tofurkey tastes like a heated up sponge. I am hooked on the Quorn roast, it makes the best sandwich the next day too. Guest guest
I have been pondering this very issue. My situation is this: divorced, two kids, alternating Thanksgivings. This year is my turn. When they spend it with the former in-laws, they get a very fancy, traditional meal. They are real gourmets (and I am not). My eldest daughter is in love with their meals, especially the succulent turkey, and my youngest is fine because they have lots of other stuff she'll eat. So year before last, I bought half a turkey breast and my (then-12-year-old) cooked it, with my supervision. Gross for me, but she was happy. We also made lasagna, mashed potatoes, my special dinner rolls, salad, and cranberry sauce. (Luckily my daughter could do without the gravy/stuffing.) Once the holiday was over, I sent the whole remaining carcass, pan and all, to the ex's house. I was able to deal with that OK. I'm not sure what I want to do this year, now that I'm more into cooking. We also alternate Easter and for that I've started our own tradition. The former in-laws do a fancy Easter brunch at a restaurant, but my daughters and I do a high tea. They love it and there's no feeling that I have to live up to anything. (My former in-laws are very wealthy and everything is first class. I remember one of the last Christmases I spent with that family they rented a banquet room at the Ritz Carlton in SF. That's why I want to differentiate myself from their traditions.) Sharon lily_of_the_mall wrote: > I know I will make a Quorn Roast,

Guest guest
homemade cranberry sauce is so good, and it looks so beautiful on a holiday table. That color is so rich I just want to dive into it, LOL hugs, Chanda - lily_of_the_mall Tuesday, September 26, 2006 12:27 AM Re: Question of the week? Tofurkey Or Quorn I know I will make a Quorn Roast, I sure did not like the Tofurkey brand. This year I want to try making cranberry sauce. I believe we will have all the regular trimmings too. Guest guest
make yours fun. If you cannot compete with the meal, and if they love turkey, you most likely won't " win " but you can still compete with fun things to do while eating, before eating, or after eating, to make your meal just as memorable. As far as what to do, it depends on what your kid likes. Maybe invite a guest they enjoy, or eat in the livingroom with a movie they want to see? hugs, Chanda - Sharon Zakhour Tuesday, September 26, 2006 12:44 AM Re: Re: Question of the week? Guest guest
Gayle, I think you have it right! It wasn't the tofurky that was gross, but the stuffing. It would be better if it was just a roast like the Quorn. It is a real waste to have to throw away the dressing, but it is terrible! I really like the tofurky lunch meat! Margaret Isn't that funny, I my daughter and I like some of the quorn patties and cutlets but not the quorn roast however we do like the tofurkey but not the stuffing that is inside of it. We take it out and make our own and put it inside the tofurkey. Gayle
